I’m seeking another term on the Escanaba City Council to continue ensuring our community thrives with effective leadership and sustainable growth. As a nearly lifelong resident, I deeply care about our city. My top priorities are:
Economic Development: Continue bringing in diverse businesses and promoting local entrepreneurship to create job opportunities.
Infrastructure Improvement: Continue enhancing roads, utilities, and public spaces for long-term resilience.
Community Engagement: Continue ensuring residents’ voices are heard and fostering a transparent government.
Together, we can build a stronger, more vibrant Escanaba for all.
Escanaba needs a multifaceted approach to address our housing situation. First, we should incentivize the development of affordable housing through tax breaks and perhaps low-interest loans for developers willing to build or renovate homes for middle and low-income families. Second, streamline zoning regulations to make it easier to build and repurpose properties for housing. Third, explore public-private partnerships to renovate vacant properties and attract investment.
Escanaba faces several key challenges, including improving infrastructure, supporting local businesses, and enhancing public safety. First, investing in roads, utilities, and public spaces can attract businesses and improve the quality of life. We should prioritize modernizing the downtown area and supporting small businesses through incentives and grants. Public safety can be improved by increasing community-police collaboration and mental health resources. Lastly, addressing affordable housing and expanding recreational opportunities will make Escanaba a community for all residents.
As a candidate for Escanaba City Council, I believe economic development starts with supporting local businesses and creating a thriving environment for new ones to grow. I will continue to focus on enhancing the downtown area to make it more attractive for both residents and tourists, while fostering entrepreneurship by working with the Chamber, DDA, and EDA to provide resources for startups. Additionally, investing in workforce development and partnering with Bay College will help attract industries that provide sustainable, high-quality jobs. Let’s also explore grants and incentives to bring in innovative businesses and diversify our economy.
As a City Council candidate, I acknowledge our utility rates have increased in recent years, mostly due to unfunded mandates from the state legislature. Those mandates make it difficult to find solutions to the high utility rates that are burdening our community. However, I will continue working to enhance transparency around utility pricing and the factors contributing to rate increases. I will advocate for exploring alternative funding sources and partnerships that could lower costs in the long term. My goal is to ensure our residents aren’t overpaying, while still supporting the necessary infrastructure for a sustainable and affordable future.
I believe the process for selling city property should be transparent, fair, and in the best interest of Escanaba residents. While the current system provides a framework, it could benefit from more public input and oversight to ensure that every sale is scrutinized and aligns with community goals. Decisions should prioritize long-term growth, public access, and sustainability. Clear guidelines, fair bidding processes, and community involvement would make sure that properties are sold in ways that reflect the values and needs of Escanaba's citizens.
As a candidate for Escanaba City Council, my top budget priorities are public safety, infrastructure improvements, and community development. First, ensuring adequate funding for our police and fire departments is essential for maintaining a safe, thriving city. Second, investing in long-term infrastructure upgrades, including road repairs, stormwater management, and enhancing parks, will improve the quality of life for residents and help attract new businesses. Finally, I’ll advocate for supporting after school and senior programs, as well as recreational activities to foster a vibrant community where all residents can thrive.
As a City Council member, I will continue prioritizing the development of strong, collaborative partnerships with the Delta County Chamber of Commerce, EDA, DDA, and Bay College. By aligning our goals, we can leverage resources to attract new businesses, expand workforce development, and foster innovation. I would advocate for initiatives that connect education and industry, like workforce training programs, and work to streamline processes for new developments. Additionally, I’d support infrastructure improvements that enhance the business climate and create long-term, sustainable economic growth for Escanaba.
