Name Beth Clodfelter
Making it even more convenient to pay property taxes is a top goal of mine for the Treasurer's position, as is working hard to keep the Athens County Land Bank going strong in our county.
For years, I successfully managed a $1.3 million budget at Ohio University. As Appalachian Ohio Rep. for US Senator Sherrod Brown, I regularly discussed the financial concerns of community leaders in 25 counties. In my second term on Athens City Council, I serve on Council's Finance Committee. For years I have played a behind-the-scenes roll financial role for the Pawpaw Festival in a position that requires a great deal of trust; the founders of that festival know that I am honest and ethical.
For nearly 20 years I worked in a variety of administrative positions at Ohio University, including as the Director of the Office of Nationally Competitive Awards. My leadership style endeavors to bring out the best in each staff member and ensure that the whole team is clear on the mission of the office. In addition, twice I have worked in the Athens County Treasurer's office, helping them out at busy times; so I got to know the staff members well; that will be beneficial if I do get elected.

There are two top priorities that I would bring to the position. The first is the safety and security of your tax dollars. As Treasurer, I would work to ensure fair, efficient, and effective collections while keeping a close eye on the treasury. My track record emphatically shows my team's success on these fronts in Nelsonville. Second, I would work to ensure a strong future for the County Land Bank, a vitally important tool in the fight to maintain affordable housing in Athens County.
I spent 2 of my 4 years on the City Council on the Finance Committee, where we steered City Finances from disaster to stable. As City Auditor, I have helped manage a turnaround in the treasury, while taking on corruption and managing the budget, taxation, utility billing, and staff. On my first day, we had just a few thousand dollars in the General Fund. Today's balance hovers around one million dollars due to our strong leadership. This wealth of experience will serve Athens County well.
As Auditor, my staff and I manage the budget, accounts payable, utility billing, yearly audit, compliance requirements, taxation, receipts, delinquencies, and much more. Further, I manage an incredible and bright staff of 3 who are the reason that City Hall's administrative side hums along. Finally, my Master's in Public Administration from Ohio University has equipped me with invaluable tools for the effective and efficient administration of government. I believe strongly in public service!
