My top priorities would be to ensure that every child has access to high-quality education, protect and uplift the human right to affordable, quality healthcare, and to tackle the affordability, climate and addiction crises facing New York. We need to fund our public schools, make healthcare more affordable and accessible for all New Yorkers, preserve our environment and invest in clean energy technologies, support our treatment providers in their endeavors to serve those impacted by addiction and make sure that everyone has the means and opportunity to live, thrive and age in place in our communities across the state.
The most effective way to address climate change is to invest in both innovation and conservation, supporting policies that accomplish those goals like the bigger Bottle Bill, etc. As we continue to research and develop clean energy projects, we must ensure that no one is left behind, we create new jobs and we protect our farmers. Access to green energy and natural resources must be made accessible to all New Yorkers and an emphasis needs to be placed on equity as we continue the transition to clean energy technologies. I work on numerous clean energy initiatives currently and am excited to bring that passion, education and resources to our communities in the Assembly.
We must be vigilant in standing up to the radical right-wing forces that are actively chipping away at our democracy. We must continue to ease access to voting through measures such as same day voter registration and voting by mail. Democracy can only work with protection and participation, and I will fight for both. I have already started that effort in Rensselaer County and advocated for polling places for the June primary to stay open and avoid excessive consolidation. I will always be a staunch supporter of democracy and increased transparency.
As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I am acutely aware of the importance of defending the rights of oppressed groups as well as the challenges facing these communities. I know what it is like to feel like your voice is silenced and your seat at the table removed or denied. I am running to prevent that from happening and stop the attacks at both the federal and state level on reproductive freedoms, communities of color, LGBTQIA+ communities, etc. As an Assemblymember, I will continue to champion justice and equity for all.
