Because I understand the balance between governance and operations. I want to support our qualified staff to allow clear direction while still asking the questions and looking out for the best interest of our community and taxpayers. I want Brainerd to be able to provide a clearer road map for businesses/developers & housing partners without making the process feel unwelcoming or too burdensome; of course, doing so without compromising our city's values.
1.) Looking for efficiencies within our city/surrounding communities in an effort to keep Brainerd's services affordable.
2.) Taking care of the amenities we already have before they become a problem.
3.) Creating a community that people want to invest in.
As an At-Large member, my responsibility would be to represent ALL of Brainerd, not one neighborhood or one point of view. I would make myself accessible to listen to people whose experiences and opinions differ from mine. Being accessible doesn't necessarily mean I'll be showing up on someone's doorstep. Attending community events, visiting business owners, being available via phone, email, or a simple invitation for a visit is just fine with me.
Transparency means people shouldn't have to work hard to understand what their city is doing. Asking questions publicly (when appropriate) expecting clearer information before decisions are made, and explaining what decisions were made, but most importantly - WHY. It's also evaluating every decision made (good/bad) to see what can be learned from it.
