As a lifetime resident of the Austin area, I feel it is time for a change in Austin for the office of Mayor. I have been involved with many community projects. I currently serve as the Board Chair for St. Marks Living, and on the Board of Directors for Grace Lutheran Church, and AEG which coordinates the 4th of July and Hometown Christmas events. I have been the scorekeeper for Austin High School Hockey for over 30 years. I have previously served on the Board of Directors for Austin Youth Hockey and Austin Girls Fastpitch Softball. As a businessman in Austin, I coordinated the of Fiber agreement between Austin Utilities and Austin Public Schools. I also organized the placement of irrigation by volunteers for the practice fields at Wescott.
First would be to try and improve the morale of the City of Austin employees. Second would be to look at options to improve the Business climate in the entire city. There are a lot of empty commercial buildings in town. This town really needs a movie theatre open daily. It helps the surrounding businesses as a destination. Seek additional events that attract tourists. Third would be to think outside the box about budget concerns.
I have had a basic management style I have used in the past. I feel it is important to hire competent people and let them do their job. Occasional guidance may be required micromanaging should not be necessary. All activities should be conducted in an ethical manner. If I make a mistake, I will quickly admit it and rectify it as soon as possible. I always answer my phone and will answer concerns to the best of my ability.
I am active in many areas of the community; I will solicit comments and respond to unsolicited feedback. I won’t promise we will always agree. I promise that I will consider all opinions and use those as guidance. My telephone is always on, if I can’t answer it, I will return the call as soon as possible.
It is important that we support all our Police officers and our First Responders. They are placing their lives on the line to improve the quality of our lives. We need to keep them as safe as possible. Staffing for all occupations is becoming a challenge. We need to explore ways to overcome the challenges.
