To investigate deaths that occur in Cass County.
I have implemented a Suicide, Overdose Fatality Review (SOFR) team that meets monthly to review all suicide and drug overdose deaths that occur in Cass County. We consist of local law enforcement, fire departments, Emergency Medical responders, Logansport Memorial Hospital 4C Mental Health, other mental health organizations, Indiana Department of Corrections, local and regional suicide prevention groups, Cass County Coroner's Office, concerned individuals from Cass County and all Cass County School corporations. We meet once a month and review any deaths suicide or drug deaths that have occurred in Cass County. We are also part of a new group that is working on ways to educate and prevent suicide deaths. I have a chaplain on staff.
Our biggest problem is budgeting. The number of deaths the Cass County Coroner's Office investigates has increased significantly over the past few years. A big part of the increase can be attributed to the increase in the number of drug related deaths in recent years. These deaths consume a lot of time to investigate. Each of these deaths require an autopsy which is very expensive and time consuming. The Cass County Coroner's office does not have a county transport vehicle. A proper transport vehicle can be very expensive to purchase and maintain. Currently we do out own transporting and invoice the county for each transport we do.
I have lived in Cass County and Logansport for most of my life. I graduated Logansport High School and am retired from the Logansport Police Department, where I served for 23 years. I am a certified Medical Legal Death Investigator with over seven years of death investigation experience as your Cass County Coroner. I attend Revolution Community Church. I have a strong faith and trust in Christ and will offer pray for the family members and friends of the deceased. My wife DeeDee (DeHaven) have four adult children and for grandchildren.
