County Clerk
Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice. Magna cum laude, University of Texas at Arlington
Fifteen years as the elected County Clerk and eight years in Tarrant County Sheriff's administration.
I have 15 plus years as County Clerk with a track record of successfully leading diverse teams with wide ranging duties and responsibilities. Delivered 13 million dollars in budget savings to taxpayers, significantly expanded online services, and managed staffing as Tarrant County’s population exponentially grew through innovative use of technology to include AI. My office has received recognition at the state and national level for technological excellence.
Through innovative use of technology, including AI, to enhance productivity, coupled with continuous evaluation of business processes. I've used the above successfully for the last ten plus years.
I've significantly enhanced online access to records while maintaining the highest levels of security in partnership with the Tarrant County Information Technology department. Records are not made available to the public until their accuracy is ensured via technology and human oversight.
I've been systematically upgrading case management systems since 2011 in partnership with the Tarrant County Information Technology department.
The greatest need in the office is to consistently recruit, train and retain qualified candidates with the goal of becoming tenured public servants.
Occupation
Small Business Owner
I am a small business owner, community leader, and champion for transparency in local government. I am President of Equipa, a firm that works with nonprofits and foundations. I hold a B.A. from Austin College and a Ph.D. in Sociology from Harvard. I have brought people together to fight gerrymandering and poll closures in Tarrant County.
I bring the leadership experience and data management background to lead our County Clerk's office effectively. I have been a watchdog for fiscal transparency in Tarrant County, and I have already won positive change in county government. In 2024, I helped convince the county to cancel a multi-million dollar contract with a private prison that failed state inspection. I co-founded a coalition that organized the community to protect free and fair elections and to stop cuts to services.
Doing business with Tarrant County should be fast, friendly, and frustration-free--that's my goal as the next County Cler. Throughout my career, I have helped many organizations improve their processes with community engagement and user experience research, and I’ll bring that same data-driven approach to improving Tarrant County government. I want people to feel respected and empowered every time they interact with our office, whether in person, by phone, or online.
As the guardian of important county records, I will prioritize saving people time and money, while also protecting their privacy and fighting property fraud. Doing both requires making cybersecurity a top priority. Additionally, local governments are increasingly targeted by cybercriminals. I will prioritize IT investments and better employee training to prevent data breaches and ransomware attacks. I will also continue to update the county’s data infrastructure for the 21st century.
The incumbent County Clerk oversaw the botched rollout of new software that still didn’t work after ten years of development and over $26 million spent by Tarrant County. Dallas County withdrew from this joint project after spending another $36 million. As the next County Clerk, I bring the data management background and leadership experience to get our data infrastructure back on track.
Tarrant County is being harmed by the closure of almost a third of our polling locations, which will likely lead to long lines at the polls this November. I am also concerned that citizens are being prevented from having a say in county policy making. I will stand up for free and fair elections as the deciding vote on the Elections Commission. I will also be a champion for transparency and fiscal responsibility in our county budget. I will lead this office with integrity, humility, and respect.
