The Kansas House of Representatives is the lower house of the legislature of the U.S. state of Kansas. Composed of 125 state representatives from districts with roughly equal populations of at least 19,000, its members are responsible for crafting and voting on legislation, helping to create a state budget, and legislative oversight over state agencies.

Currently a teacher and coach (25 years), a life-long resident of Jefferson County Kansas, married to Clint Williams since 2015, 2 children, 2 step-children, 6 grandchildren
Community/Public Service
Much of my community service has been through school. I have also helped incarcerated women obtain their GED's and helped serve at LINK (Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen) for over 17 years.

I feel like one of my best attributes that would make me the best candidate is approachability and my ability to listen to the concerns of constituents. As a debate coach and teacher, I have honed my speaking skills and feel I can affect change in our legislature through the building of case for and against a given topic.
First and foremost for me is Public Education (and Special Education funding). We must find ways to make sure we continue to fund education for the future of our children and our state. Second, would be affordability in our state. Currently, childcare, housing and available food sources create hardships for families. If we want to maintain our families and employment in our state, we need to make childcare affordable (this can be part of the education bill since quality childcare enhances the future education of babies and children). My third concern is property taxes. While we need to maintain affordability and education, we need to make sure property taxes are affordable. Families and elderly should not be displaced from their homes
I think it is important that every legislator has an accessible website that is updated as bills move through. Constituents should be able to request copies of all bills as they move through (and yes, as they are amended). Gut and Go should not even be a process! We should not have to worry about what has been added to the "title" of a bill or if a bill has been stripped of its essence and a non-related bill put into the bill. If the legislature isn't being transparent with its constituents, it is not doing its job!
I do not believe we need to change anything with our current voting system. Contrary to the rhetoric, I believe voting in the state of Kansas is safe, secure and thankfully accessible. Election laws are a different thing! We are currently developing into a government run by the rich, for the rich, with the majority of us unable to affect change with some in the legislature. I do not believe we should have SuperPACS and there should be accountability for the race you are running (not just a financial statement). I also think there should be fiscal responsibility within these races. Spending crazy amounts of money on mis-leading and deceitful ads is not a good representation of what lawmakers should be.
