I retired in 2023 as the Chief Deputy of the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office. I oversaw the day to day operations of the office, including the budget. No other candidate has managed a 50+million dollar budget. I have lived in Cabarrus for most of my life having attended elementary through high school in Cabarrus County Schools. I have a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice from East Carolina University. I am also a graduate of the UNCC Public/Non-Profit Leadership Academy. I have also been very involved in my community. As a member of Allen-Graham/Cabarrus Masonic Lodge and the Oasis Shrine, I have volunteered countless hours to helping others.
The budget shortfall. Roughly 80-85% of the County budget is mandated services which means the County has to fund it. You have to review the budget and make what cuts you can without affecting services. The budget process can be adjusted to help alleviate spending in a number of ways. The tendency from past boards has been to look to employees to make cuts. This has created low morale and caused high turnover in some areas of the County. The better option to help with the shortfall is to create a pro-business environment where we have commercial growth over residential. Commercial businesses add to the tax base, typically use less water/sewer, and have far less impact on our schools.
The County is responsible for the building of schools. Money can be saved by utilizing set designs for our schools instead of designing different plans for each and every school. The Commissioners also need to be more involved in the approval process for these large subdivisions coming into our County, primarily because the needs of the school system have to be addressed before a municipality approves a subdivision. The County does have one of the highest teacher supplements in the State but we have fallen behind in new school construction and in providing for deferred maintenance. We need to emphasize school infrastructure funding and then do our best to curb high-density housing until we can alleviate our infrastructure deficiency.
There has been such vitriol about the Economic Development Corporation which recruits businesses to Cabarrus County. Their funding, under $400,000, is a drop in the bucket for what they bring back to Cabarrus County. We need to continue their funding and then work to do the things that will promote businesses to come here by maintaining high quality schools, building up our infrastructure, and promoting great healthcare. The best way to fight inflation and high costs is to provide our citizens with higher paying jobs that does not require them to travel out of county.
Our social services department in Cabarrus County receives a great deal of critique. I am uncertain of how much of it is justified or not. What I can promise is that if elected, I will ask for an outside audit of our Department of Social Services to ensure that staffing levels are appropriate and that our processes are in line with state and national standards. In my own professional experiences, I recognized some perceived deficiencies while also seeing a lot of great work so I feel an audit is the best thing we can do to ensure we are working effectively and efficiently.
I just want to get the hyper politics out of our local government. When a Commissioner makes a decision, those decisions affect the very people you may see in the grocery store or at the park. Extreme partisanship has no place in our local decision-making. You can have your base beliefs in conservatism without being extreme. I feel I bring a common-sense approach to our Board of Commissioners.
Position/philosophy statement
I am running for commissioner to help make Cabarrus County a place where people can afford to live and thrive. County government should stay focused on core services, fiscal discipline, and clear communication with taxpayers.

I bring real-world experience managing budgets, planning for long-term needs, and delivering results without raising costs. I have owned and operated small businesses, where fiscal discipline and accountability are essential and I currently serve as president of my homeowners association, overseeing budgets, reserves and infrastructure planning while improving communication without increasing dues.
I also serve as a GOP precinct chair and county delegate, giving me direct insight into the concerns of Cabarrus County residents. My approach is practical, data-driven and focused on responsible growth, transparency and respect for taxpayers.
The most important issue facing the County Commission over the next two years is property taxes. As Cabarrus County continues to grow, rising property values and increased spending place added pressure on homeowners and families. The county must manage growth responsibly, prioritize core services and exercise fiscal discipline to prevent unnecessary tax increases.
The most effective role the County Commission can play in improving local schools is responsible funding paired with accountability. School funding makes up more than half of the county budget, so it is critical that dollars are aligned with classroom needs, student outcomes and long-term facility planning.
The County Commission should work closely with the Board of Education to evaluate spending, plan for growth and ensure taxpayer dollars are used efficiently. When elected, I will support funding decisions that prioritize core educational needs, protect taxpayers and encourage transparency with measurable results.
Improving the county’s economy starts with creating an environment where businesses want to invest, grow and stay. I support policies that focus on smart growth, infrastructure readiness and predictable taxes rather than government expansion.
The County Commission should prioritize targeted economic development that grows the tax base without shifting the burden onto residents by way of 85% economic grant incentives. I will advocate for disciplined budgeting, strong partnerships with the private sector and long-term planning that supports job creation, protects quality of life and keeps Cabarrus County competitive and affordable.
The goal of social services should be effective outcomes, not expanded programs. County social services should focus on helping individuals and families move toward independence, stability and self-sufficiency rather than long-term reliance on government assistance.
I support policies that emphasize accountability, coordination with community partners and clear performance measures to ensure services are effective and respectful of taxpayers.
The county’s role should be limited, focused and centered on helping families, while encouraging stability and local support networks in Cabarrus County.

I bring real-world experience as a small business owner, community leader, and longtime advocate for early childhood education. I understand firsthand how county decisions impact families, employers, and taxpayers because I have navigated local ordinances, budgets, and regulations myself. My background includes working closely with nonprofits, educators, and public-private partners to build prevention-focused solutions that reduce long-term costs. I am fiscally disciplined, collaborative, and committed to transparency and accountability. Most importantly, I listen, ask hard questions, and focus on practical, forward-thinking solutions that serve the entire community.
The most important issue facing the County Commission over the next two years is maintaining essential public services while managing growth responsibly and protecting taxpayers. With rising costs, capital demands, and budget pressures, the county must practice fiscal discipline, improve long-term planning, and avoid last-minute budgeting that leads to higher taxes. This includes prioritizing public safety, schools, and infrastructure while eliminating duplication, increasing transparency, and investing in prevention-focused programs that reduce future costs. Smart growth, early planning, and accountability will be critical to keeping the county affordable and financially stable.
The County Commission’s most effective role in improving local schools is responsible funding, long-term capital planning, and collaboration with school leadership. The county must plan school construction and maintenance proactively to keep pace with growth without overburdening taxpayers. I support transparent, multi-year capital plans, careful project sequencing, and strong cost controls. In addition, the county can invest in early childhood and workforce readiness initiatives, partner with community organizations, and support safe learning environments. These actions strengthen student outcomes while protecting fiscal stability.
To strengthen the county’s economy, I will focus on supporting small businesses, responsible growth, and workforce participation. This includes streamlining permitting where appropriate, improving coordination between county departments, and prioritizing local vendors in county procurement. I support transparent, long-term infrastructure and capital planning that attracts investment without driving up taxes. The county should also expand partnerships that support childcare and workforce readiness, helping more residents participate in the labor force. A strong local economy depends on smart growth, efficient government, and policies that keep Cabarrus County competitive and affordable.
To improve both the quantity and quality of social services, I will prioritize coordination, early intervention, and accountability. The county should better align nonprofit, and public resources to reduce duplication and close service gaps. I support prevention-focused programs in mental health, youth development, and family support that reduce long-term costs and system involvement. Clear performance metrics, regular program evaluation, and transparent funding decisions will ensure services deliver real outcomes. Strengthening partnerships and using data-driven planning will allow the county to expand access while protecting taxpayers.
I am running to bring a fresh, practical perspective to county government, one grounded in real-world experience, collaboration, and accountability. As a small business owner and community advocate, I understand how county decisions affect families, employers, and taxpayers every day. I believe government works best when it plans early, spends responsibly, and measures results. I am committed to transparency, open dialogue, and building partnerships that strengthen public safety, education, and economic opportunity without unnecessary tax burdens. Cabarrus County deserves leadership that listens, asks hard questions, and focuses on long-term solutions that keep our community strong, affordable, and prepared for the future.

Besides my service as a two-term Town Councilman, and a sitting Cabarrus County Commissioner, my training as an architect and business owner puts me in a unique position for government service. Architects are trained to solve problems.

I was appointed to the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners by the Republican party in December 2025 with a unanimous vote by the Board, and was subsequently appointed Vice-Chair of the Board, again with a unanimous vote. I served on the Harrisburg Town Council for two terms where I was also the Chair of the Board of Adjustment. My training as an architect and business owner puts me in a unique position for government service. Architects are trained to solve problems – to look at the big picture and make informed decisions and recommend solutions – often outside the box solutions.
We have a current budget deficit of $13.7M, ballooning to 27 million in 2028 and a staggering $66 million by 2031. This is not sustainable. With an almost half a billion-dollar budget, there is no reason whatsoever to be seeing shortfalls even five years out, let alone one. After my work is done in the next few months to pass a budget that actually works, I’ll shift my focus to ensuring the tax burden placed on ordinary hardworking people is as minimal as possible.
The County is required by state law to fund school facilities, but we are looking at huge budget deficits. I think we should ask the voters, on the ballot, if they want to approve Bonds to build schools. I think the voters are smart, but they’ve been treated in the past as if they are not.
We’re experiencing unprecedented economic growth and prosperity. Our only issue seems to be that we don’t know what to do with it. We’re operating under outdated policies that don’t take full advantage of the opportunities the private sector has to offer. We’re giving away without objection tax revenue for no reason whatsoever. We’re acting as if Cabarrus County isn’t an incredibly attractive market for private investment and opportunity for the people to grow their wealth. We’re in the top 5 counties in the state and we’re acting as if we need help. No, we need to unleash the business community to do what they do best – grow – which in turn provides the best opportunities for the people.
Priority number one is getting our fiscal house in order. We are spending more than we are taking in – I would go out of business if I took this approach at my architecture firm. Simply getting out of the way - letting the economic engine that is private industry drive our economy, provide jobs and opportunities, and increase the tax base so that we can provide services for the best value possible without getting into services that we have no business doing.
I am a member of the Cabarrus Chamber, NC Economic Development Association, CPN (Construction Professionals Network), SCUP (Society of College and University Planners), and a certified disaster relief inspector for NC SEER – where we work for FEMA after natural disasters to ensure buildings are safe for people to return. I am LEED Certified for Building Design + Construction where I served as the Board Vice-Chair and Membership Committee Chair. I served on the American Institute of Architect’s Legislative Review Committee and am a registered architect in North and South Carolina. I received the Charlotte Business Journal’s prestigious 40 under 40 award in 2022 and a CPN Service Award the same year.

I have over 5 plus years managing in North Carolina local governments. I have an undergraduate and Masters degree in Public Administration and Masters degree in Theological Counseling. I have lived on family land in Cabarrus County from birth and inherited since 1735. I have presented and administered local government budgets without increasing taxes and actually lowered taxes while enhancing revenue. I have submitted and managed federal and state grants underbudget. I am the best candidate for the position.
Decrease government over-reach in zoning and subdivision ordinances. Balance and lower expenses in the annual budget which should lead to lowering taxes.
We must talk to the schools about lowering expenses so that we can lower taxes. Schools currently have no taxing burden. We must work together.
Lower commercial development restrictions and lower taxes to encourage new development.
We need to increase commercial growth to allow employment to all people so they will not need social service burdens.
I would appreciate your vote on March 3, 2026 or before at early voting or mail-in ballots.
