I am the best candidate for NC House District 60 because for 4 decades my life’s work, professional and personal, has been dedicated to strengthening the financial stability of families, the root solution to reducing poverty, housing insecurity, addressing health & food deserts, education gaps, and community safety. For 43 years, I have served High Point and Guilford County through public housing, workforce development, youth programs, and civil rights leadership. I’ve created real opportunities: after-school programs, job pipelines, homeownership pathways, and voter protections. I bring proven leadership, deep community trust, and a track record of turning policy into people-centered results with honesty, integrity, and accountability.
My most important priority is strengthening families by listening to the community and responding with policies rooted in equity and inclusion. For over four decades, my work has focused on ensuring opportunity for all in High Point, Guilford County, and across the state of North Carolina. I will support entrepreneurship, small businesses, and the nonprofits that stand in the gap for families. I will work to raise wages equitably with a focus on the needs of both the employees and employers, strengthen public schools, eliminate food and health deserts, expand transportation access, increase affordable and workforce housing, and protect the right to vote, because stable families build strong communities.
My priorities will focus on delivering equitable, well-resourced public schools. North Carolina ranks near the bottom nationally in per-pupil funding and teacher pay, with ongoing budget challenges affecting districts statewide. I’ll fight to fully fund competitive teacher salaries, smaller class sizes, and required resources to Title 1 schools, while strengthening families, reducing poverty’s impact on learning. I support expanding investments in those elements that allow schools to address both academic and social-emotional needs. I’ll support nonprofits that stand in the gap, advocate for a fairer funding model aligned with the Leandro mandate, oppose vouchers and eliminate the charter schools' accountability gaps.
Tax policy should build a strong, fair economy that works for working families, small businesses, and communities. Our current tax structure relies heavily on sales and property taxes, placing a greater burden on low and middle-income residents, while income and corporate tax cuts have reduced revenue for public investments. Tax policy must balance fiscal responsibility with equity by protecting working families, ensuring corporations and high-income earners pay their fair share and using tax revenue to strengthen families, fund public education, healthcare, infrastructure, affordable housing, and workforce development. A fair tax system grows the economy from the middle out and ensures the state can meet its obligations to its people.
I would promote changes to state law that strengthen community safety by addressing root causes of violence, improving accountability, and supporting prevention, not just punishment. My priorities include expanding violence prevention and intervention programs that address mental health, substance use, and youth supports; mandating transparency and accountability in policing; strengthening behavioral health and re-entry services; reforming bail and pretrial systems to balance safety with fairness; and investing in improving the financial stability of families and youth programs. These reforms focus on community-centered safety, accountability, and prevention, ensuring residents feel safe and are safe in every neighborhood.
I bring 43 years of hands-on service addressing the real needs of people across the state. My work has not been rooted in boardrooms, but in communities, listening, understanding, and working side by side with families to find solutions. I decided to run because it’s time to restore respect, integrity, accountability, trust, and community engagement back to the House District 60 seat. Too many people feel ignored, too many promises have been broken, and too many families are struggling without a voice at the table. I’m running for the people, not for PACs or special interests. When I go to Raleigh, I take the community with me, their voices, needs, and values, so government works for those it serves.
Position/philosophy statement I am an active High Point leader who shows up for the people in my district. I am committed to transparency in my work and lifting the voices of working people in North Carolina.

I am a former educator and long time community advocate. I was elected to High Point City Council, At Large in 2023. During my time on city council, I was able to secure funding for Meals on Wheels, Youth Focus, TEAMS (eviction mediation), and High Point Schools Partnership. I moved the conversation forward on solar integration and helped citizens advocated for the protection of our greenway. I present, nationally, at creative problem solving conferences, and pride myself for innovative and systems-based thinking.
Protecting our public schools is at the top of my agenda. I know that families and businesses rely on strong public schools to provide the sound basis for a high functioning society. I know that my experience can provide nuance and real solutions to stop the bleed of teachers, students, and public outcry about the state of our schools. We need to end the private voucher program and we need to reign in corporate charter schools.
I believe we need to reprofessionalize public school teachers and the invaluable support staff that provide the daily care of our children. North Carolina used to lead in teacher support, but we have seen targeted attacks on all fronts, from how people spend their time in a school building to the resources they use in instruction, and the loss of culturally responsive education. I want to see the return of Master’s pay for teachers, reduction of corporate control over curriculum, and expansion of real-world learning opportunities for our children.
I believe we need to stand up to the Republican plan to move NC to a 0% corporate tax rate. We can see, from other states in the region, that it is not necessary for economic development and it hurts the people of NC when we allow millionaires and billionaires to opt out of paying their fair share when it comes to education, infrastructure, and protecting our vast natural resources.
I believe we should evaluate the data around how poverty drives crime rates. We can develop public safety regulations that maintain safe roadways and neighborhoods, while also prioritizing people’s life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness.
I plan to fight for women’s health and autonomy on every front, and recognize that adequate housing is a human right. I believe in equality for all people in all institutions and will fight for the people of my district and all of NC.

Position/philosophy statement My philosophy is simple: government should work for the people it serves. Leadership is not about power, but about responsibility listening before legislating, showing up before speaking, and acting with integrity even when it’s hard.

I am a servant leader with a proven record of service, advocacy, and results. I have spent more than 20 years as an educator, working directly with students, families, and communities to expand opportunity and remove barriers to success. I have served on statewide education policy centers, helping shape systems-level solutions that improve outcomes and accountability. As a nonprofit leader, I’ve built partnerships, managed resources responsibly, and delivered programs that meet real community needs. I understand policy and people—and I know how to turn listening into action. These experiences prepare me to represent District 60 with integrity, effectiveness, and a deep commitment to the people I serve.
If elected to represent NC House District 60, my most important priority is to improve quality of life for families across our community by investing in education, housing, and our aging population. Strong public schools are the foundation of opportunity, and I will fight for full, fair funding so every child can succeed. Safe, affordable housing is essential to economic stability, and I will work to protect tenants, support homeowners, and expand housing options. As our district ages, we must ensure seniors can live with dignity through accessible health care, transportation, and supportive services. I will lead as a servant leader, listening first and putting people over politics.
As a candidate for NC House District 60, my top education priority is fully funding public education and meeting our constitutional obligation to every child. In the coming year, I will advocate for implementing the Leandro plan, increasing per-pupil funding, and raising educator pay to recruit and retain quality teachers. Our schools also need strong mental health support, updated facilities, and access to federal funding we are owed. Education is not an expense, it is an investment in our workforce, our economy, and the future of District 60 and North Carolina.
As a candidate for NC House District 60, I believe tax policy should be fair, responsible, and focused on people not special interests. Taxes are how we invest in the things that grow our economy and strengthen communities: strong public schools, affordable housing, health care, infrastructure, and public safety. In the coming year, we must stop giveaways that benefit the wealthy and corporations while starving essential services. I support a balanced approach that provides tax relief for working families and seniors on fixed incomes, while ensuring profitable corporations pay their fair share so North Carolina can meet the real needs of its residents and build a sustainable economy for the future.
As a candidate for NC House District 60, I believe community safety starts with prevention, accountability, and opportunity. I would promote common-sense gun safety laws that respect responsible ownership while keeping firearms out of the hands of those who pose a risk. I support investments in mental health care, youth programs, and violence-interruption initiatives that address the root causes of crime. Safety also means stable housing, quality education, and good jobs because communities thrive when people have what they need to succeed. I will work to strengthen trust between law enforcement and residents and ensure policies keep families safe without criminalizing poverty or limiting civil rights.
