I bring experience as a community organizer, communications strategist, and coalition builder who understands how county government impacts people’s daily lives. I have worked closely with labor, housing, civil rights, and environmental organizations, and have served as Secretary of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg NAACP and Co-Coordinator of the Charlotte hub of the Sunrise Movement. My background equips me to communicate complex issues clearly and build consensus across diverse stakeholders while remaining connected to my community. I am committed to remaining community-focused and transparent to responsibly deliver equitable outcomes for Mecklenburg County residents.
Housing affordability and displacement are the most urgent challenges facing Mecklenburg County. Rising living costs, limited affordable housing supply, and aging homes are causing financial insecurity, pushing families out of their communities, and increasing homelessness. The County Commission must act quickly to expand education around access to medicaid, low-income energy assistance programs, economic support for Mecklenburg's homeowners, and crisis intervention programs. We must coordinate with municipalities to get money to our constituents while also responsibly planning for growth. Housing stability is foundational to public health, education, workforce participation, and overall economic stability.
operating and capital funding. The most effective role the Commission can play is being a stable, transparent funding partner focused on student and teacher needs. I will support funding for teacher pay, school mental health services, and aging facilities. I support regular joint work sessions between the Commission and CMS Board to improve collaboration, planning, transparency, and accountability. I am also encouraging an audit of the funds within the education and literacy budget that have been designated for a public safety training facility on the CPCC Levine campus. We must work together to ensure the best outcomes for our students and teachers.
To strengthen Mecklenburg County’s economy, I support policies that center working families and local businesses. This includes requiring living wages for county-funded work, supporting workforce development partnerships through groups like the Charlotte Metrolina Labor Council, expanding technical assistance so local entrepreneurs can actually compete for county business, and investing in infrastructure that supports long-term growth. A strong economy depends on stable housing, reliable transportation, and access to education and training, and county policy should align these investments to create shared prosperity.
We must prioritize getting the funds that are available in people’s hands. Many funds are already there, our communities just don’t know about them or how to access them. Collaboration with local organizations can improve this education gap. The county already does this successfully with HFTIC and Roof Above, ensuring wraparound services are being utilized. I plan to continue and expand support for groups on the ground that know the community’s needs. I will advocate for expanding access to mental health care through our community resource centers, housing stabilization services, and public health programs, with a focus on prevention and early intervention. Together, we can ensure that every resident of Mecklenburg County is cared for.

I bring more than 20 years of experience as a civil rights and business attorney, small-business owner, and community leader. I have litigated medical and mental health cases across North Carolina on behalf of thousands of families, holding institutions accountable and advocating for fair outcomes, experience that directly informs my approach to county oversight and budgeting. As a small-business owner, I understand fiscal responsibility and sustainable growth. I am prepared to serve on day one, making informed decisions that strengthen mental health services, affordability, community development, and quality of life for all Mecklenburg County residents.
The most important issue facing the Mecklenburg County Commission over the next two years is maintaining essential services while navigating uncertainty in state and federal funding during a period of rapid growth. Mental health services, affordability, and public health cannot be treated as optional when budgets are tight. The Commission must make disciplined, equitable decisions that protect vulnerable residents, prevent displacement, and ensure growth benefits all communities, especially those historically underserved. How we prioritize resources now will determine whether Mecklenburg County emerges stronger or leaves too many behind.
The County Commission’s most effective role in improving local schools is providing strong, predictable funding that supports teachers and the learning environment. I will advocate for competitive local supplements to help recruit and retain educators and reduce burnout. I will also support county investments in school-based mental health services, counselors, nurses, and social workers so teachers can focus on teaching. In addition, policies that expand affordable housing, transportation access, and family stability directly improve student readiness and attendance. When the County aligns education funding with health, housing, and human services, we create classrooms where teachers are supported, and students are set up to succeed.
I will propose policies that strengthen Mecklenburg County’s economy by focusing on economic mobility and shared opportunity. This includes investing in workforce development aligned with high-growth industries, expanding job training and career pathways, and supporting small businesses and minority-owned enterprises through county contracting and access to capital. I will also support county initiatives that remove barriers to mobility, such as affordable housing, transportation, childcare, and mental health services, so residents can fully participate in the economy. By aligning economic development with education, health, and housing strategies, we can create lasting pathways out of poverty and ensure growth benefits all communities.
I would propose policies that strengthen social services by expanding access, improving coordination, and ensuring equitable service delivery across Mecklenburg County. This includes investing in County Health and Human Services, particularly mental health, substance use, and crisis response services, to reduce wait times and improve outcomes. I will advocate for regular evaluations to ensure residents in District 1 have equal, convenient access to services based on location, transportation, and hours of operation. Where gaps exist, the County should expand mobile crisis units, satellite service locations, and partnerships with community providers so residents can access timely, high-quality support close to home.
I am running for Mecklenburg County Commission because District 1 deserves experienced, accountable leadership that understands both policy and people. For more than 20 years, I have worked as a civil rights and business attorney and small-business owner, advocating for families, holding institutions accountable, and navigating complex systems to get results. I believe county government must focus on what matters most: mental health, affordability, and strong communities, especially as we face growth, funding uncertainty, and increased pressure on essential services. I am prepared to serve on day one, make tough but fair decisions, and ensure Mecklenburg County’s progress includes every community, not just a few.

I believe I'm the ideal choice for District One, bringing 17+ years of local experience as a resident, professional, and family man. My almost six years as a citizen voice on the North Regional Advisory Council for Parks proves I'm commitment to expanding the "recreational network" of greenways and parks connecting Davidson, Cornelius, and Huntersville. Additionally, my professional skills in strategic planning and collaboration drive my focus on infrastructure, environmental protection for the Catawba River Basin, and community affordability. By bridging the gap between municipal needs and county resources, I offer the proactive, common-sense leadership necessary to manage growth while preserving the North Mecklenburg quality of life.
Probably the most critical issue facing the County over the next two years is managing rapid growth while ensuring long-term affordability and infrastructure readiness. Failing to proactively address the "recreational and services network," environmental stewardship of the Catawba River Basin, and transit expansion will lead to economic disadvantages and a diminished quality of life. I'm advocating for a "lead the way" approach to infrastructure—prioritizing human services and transit improvements alongside parks and greenways—to connect Davidson, Cornelius, Huntersville and Charlotte. For me, balancing our growth with cost-conscious living is vital to ensuring North Mecklenburg remains accessible to all.
The County Commission’s most effective role is providing the financial foundation for student success. I believe in building a stronger education system to equip residents with the skills they need to thrive. As Commissioner, I will suggest:
Funding Staff & Retention: Prioritizing teacher salary supplements to remain competitive and ensure our best educators stay in local classrooms.
Early Childhood Education: Supporting MECK Pre-K and universal programs to build a lifelong foundation for learning.
Job Readiness Training: Working with CMS and local businesses to identify living wage careers that students can work towards straight out of school.
We must ensure that education remains a driver of opportunity and economic growth for all.
My focus will be on a "lead the way" strategy for infrastructure and opportunity. Expanding our recreational network—greenways and parks—which stimulates local business, boosts property values, and attracts talent to North Mecklenburg. By prioritizing environmental stewardship of the Catawba River Basin and smart land use, we can ensure the county remains a sustainable destination for investment. Working with CMS to emphasize education and workforce development, funding programs that equip residents with the skills needed for high-growth sectors. By fostering collaboration between Davidson, Cornelius, Huntersville, and Charlotte, I aim to create a cohesive economic environment where families can afford to live and businesses can thrive.
I believe social services should be a bridge to opportunity. To improve their quality and reach, I'll advocate for policies that integrate health, education, and accessibility. Expanding the MECK Pre-K, including younger children, ensures support for all families and gives every child the early education they need to thrive. To improve healthcare quality, I'll advocate for expanding "Health Hubs," bringing essential medical and social services directly into underserved communities to remove barriers to care. By prioritizing staff retention for service providers and leveraging the "recreational network" of parks for mental and physical wellness, My approach ensures that social services are proactive, helping every resident in Mecklenburg.
Mecklenburg County deserves a leader who doesn't just watch growth happen, but actively shapes it to benefit every resident. My platform is rooted in a "lead the way" philosophy: prioritizing the infrastructure, schools, and green spaces our community needs before we fall behind. By investing in our "recreational network" to connect our towns, protecting the Catawba River Basin, and ensuring our teachers have the competitive supplements they deserve, we can protect the unique character of North Mecklenburg while fostering a thriving economy.
A vote for me is a vote for proactive, common-sense leadership. Having spent 17 years building a life here, I am deeply committed to ensuring our district remains affordable, accessible, and vibrant for the next generation. I will bridge the gap between our municipal needs and county resources to ensure Davidson, Cornelius, Huntersville, and North Charlotte have a strong, collaborative voice on the BOCC. Together, let’s build a better Mecklenburg.
