I am currently serving my 6th term representing the 12th District of North Carolina in the U.S. House of Representatives. I began my civic career by becoming the first African American woman ever elected to the Greensboro City School Board. I then served 9 years on the Greensboro City Council, followed by 10 terms in the N.C. General Assembly. After winning a special election in 2014, I was sworn in as the 100th woman elected to the 113th Congress. I am a stakeholder representative who fights to make Congress focus on the issues that matter most to you. What matters to you matters to me. I am an accessible and available representative who encourages and invites you to come to the table.
Affordable, accessible healthcare is one of the biggest issues facing my constituents, as Republican cuts to Medicaid and Medicare have increased costs and kicked people off their insurance. I will continue my work to lower costs for the people of Charlotte-Mecklenburg, having already voted this year to restore the Affordable Care Act tax credits. I am also focusing on the Momnibus Act, which will address the Black maternal health crisis in this country.
SNAP and WIC have been under attack, and I’m prioritizing their continued funding. My work on the IGNITE HBCU Excellence Act, to secure critical HBCU funding, will continue. I’m committed to raising the minimum wage, and will continue my focus there.
We must strengthen the middle class in order to build a stronger American economy. This includes investing in public education and job training programs so businesses can hire a skilled workforce. We need to give small businesses tax cuts and easier access to capital so they can expand and create jobs. I support giving more tax cuts to the middle class and raising the minimum wage – indexing it to the rate of inflation.
When it comes to serving the people, there’s no time for partisan back-and-forth. We must prioritize our work and our time. Keeping the government functioning is Congress’ and the White House’s most basic responsibility. I am proud of my ability to reach across the aisle and collaborate effectively with my colleagues in Congress. I am a proud co-founder of the Congressional Bipartisan HBCU Caucus, as well as the bipartisan Black Maternal Health Caucus. I look forward to continuing my bipartisan work in my 7th Congressional term.
North Carolina has seen first-hand that the health of the environment directly relates to the health of its citizens and economy. As a member of the Congressional Safe Climate Caucus, I am pushing for strong and proactive environmental policies that combat climate change, curb pollution, invest in renewable energy, and promote sustainable development solutions. I believe it's time to start investing in more renewable energy sources and develop new green technologies. Investing in energy and the environment is effectively investing in the economy.
I have always strived to be a Congresswoman who opens doors of opportunity for all and I have been very outspoken on issues that matter to my constituents. I have been a champion for public education, a leader on women’s issues and worker’s rights and a strong voice for equal rights for People of Color, the LGBTQ+ community and other marginalized groups.
Good people make good decisions for the good people that we serve. Your representative in Congress will be making decisions for you, so make sure you send the person who is going to make the right ones. I am the only candidate in my primary race who lives and votes in the 12th district. I will continue to speak up, stand up, and even act up, for you, my neighbors and friends in the 12th District. If you allow me to represent you, you WILL be represented.

Monaca Maye Williamson Is the Best candidate for U.S. House, because she stands out for her ability to do the work! She will get the job done! Monaca Maye Williamson is the Change that You want to See"! She is commitment to tackling income inequality with policies like Universal Basic Income (UBI), a Green New Deal, free education/childcare, and universal savings, affordable housing, SNAP benefits, affordable healthcare; alongside healthcare reform, environmental action, and government ethics and accountability, making her a smart choice focused on systemic change for everyday people! She will fight for Democracy for ALL PEOPLE! I am dedicated to writing bills and co-sponsoring bills in legislation that will pass not just be introduced!
I will write and cosponsor bills that will Fight for the John Lewis Voters Rights Act.
I will propose policies focused on strengthening the middle class, ensuring affordability, and promoting shared prosperity through higher wages, expanded social safety nets like child tax credits, investing in infrastructure, affordable healthcare (e.g., capping drug prices), making housing/education affordable and accessible, and increasing taxes on corporations/wealthy to fund these initiatives, all while boosting workers' rights and union power. I believe in Justice for All People!
To decrease polarization and improve government, a Democrat could champion structural reforms like independent redistricting and campaign finance reform to foster moderation, alongside promoting cross-party dialogue, emphasizing shared policy goals over partisan identity, and using data-driven approaches to counter misperceptions, thereby making Congress more representative and functional.
I will propose key environmental policies that are prioritized include accelerating the clean energy transition, enforcing environmental justice for underserved communities, and strengthening climate resilience. These priorities focus on building upon the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create jobs.
I will work to ensure higher wages, lower cost for families, lower energy bills, lower cost for groceries, access to affordable healthcare and medical leave for all workers, so people can care for loved ones or recover from illness without sacrificing their livelihood. The goal is a system where every American regardless of where they work or whether they work can count on stable access to the basic essentials of life. I am dedicated to writing bills and co-sponsoring bills in legislation that are not just “Introduced” but I will work hard to ensure that they are “Passed”! I will get the job done!
