I was born and raised in NC 10, and educated in public schools. I was a mechanical and civil engineer, trained to solve problems. I was also trained to work with others to provide the best solution, on time, and within budget. I learned to evaluate all suggestions, pick the best one, and deliver quality work, no matter who gets the credit. I have volunteered and donated to various organizations like NC Public Schools, my Church, and Veterans groups. I attend local government meetings, learning what issues trouble people. I am the best candidate because I have spent my life getting to know the people of NC 10, learning what their concerns are, and helping them. I will use my problem solving skills and empathy in DC to improve peoples lives.
In my first year, I would work to restore citizens' faith in government and increase civic engagement. I have heard from many people that their votes do not matter, and that the system is set up against them. I have attended government meetings where I was the only non-employee. First by self-financing and winning the election, I would prove that an ordinary person does not need the help of wealthy donors, special interests, or connected insiders to be a viable candidate. I would ban elected federal officials from trading individual stocks. I would initiate term limits for congress. If there is a government shutdown, then congress would have their pay suspended with no backpay. Election day would be moved to Saturday, among other changes.
One of my economic priorities is to train people for jobs that can not be replaced by automation or artificial intelligence. My goal is for college seniors not going to college to have employable middle-class skills the day they graduate. One of the reasons we lack affordable housing is because we do not have enough skilled construction workers, welders, plumbers, and electricians. I would also allow adults to learn skilled trades, in addition to the previous, like automotive repair, at community colleges for free. I would have businesses partner with public schools, colleges, and universities, to update the curriculums to provide the skills they need, so they do not have to hire people from other countries to fill open job positions.
I will work to protect more funding and wages for essential federal services. Every government shutdown is an embarassment. No citizen should suffer food insecurity because SNAP benefits may not be paid. People should not have to worry whether their loved ones can get home because airports may be shut down. There are more issues that citizens agree on than divide us. The USA is the greatest civilization in history. Its citizens deserve essential government services to be available no matter what wedge issue is being divisive in Washington, DC. The people demand public servants to live up to the name, serve the public and not their own interests. Political polarization will decrease once essential services can no longer be held hostage.
Every citizen deserves access to clean air and water. As a Capital JC Conservative, I believe our Creator has given us the responsiblility to care for our planet. We must work to eliminate products that cannot be recycled and chemicals that cause illnesses. We must try to not use things that can only go to landfills and harm our environment, if a reasonable alternative exists. I would sponsor a bill to reduce styrofoam cups and containers. Most of these are only used once then thrown away. There has been a lot of successful research into natural additives to make plastics 100% recyclable. I would sponsor a bill to phase out non-recyclable plastics. I would also require factories to treat the air and water they expel in high cancer areas.
When choosing a candidate, I encourage voters to consider whether that person has helped people before they had any political thoughts. I volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, my Church, the Salvation Army, WS/FCS Educator Warehouse, Dwelling Homeless Shelter, among others. I am not as wealthy as many running, but I have donated thousands to help pay Public School Meal Debt, Big Brothers Big Sisters, my Church, homeless groups, senior citizen and assisted living facilities, humane animal society, Veterans associations, and more. I also want voters to consider whether the candidate is right for the job. This job is to represent the people of NC 10. I have spent my life getting to know and understand all kinds of people, from public to graduate school students and teachers, co-workers at Burger King, professionals, govt officials, veterans, retirees, 1st responders & others. I will work to improve all people's lives, by taking suggestions from anyone, and not caring who gets the credit.
