POLK COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS {_getChooseLabel(this.selections.length)}

The 5-member Board sets the policy for the county, determining the strategic vision for the county, appoints a county manager, attorney and others to serve the county, adopts ordinances, including zoning, and establishes an annual budget, which includes setting the tax rate and calling bond referendums. Commissioners are elected at-large in partisan elections to serve staggered 4-year terms.

Position/philosophy statement My mission is to bring a fresh perspective to the Board of Commissioners, to be a good steward of our resources and to keep our tax rate one of the lowest in our state. I believe in responsible, well managed, slow growth to preserve our way of life.

I was raised here in Polk County and this is my home. I am also a farmer and a small business owner. I understand what fiscal responsibility and good budgeting. I understand responsible management of resources that we have.
Preventing reckless over-development. We do not have the infrastructure to support large new developments, and I also believe we need to protect and preserve the rural character of our county.
Our most effective role is responsible oversight. We also have to do what we can to support teacher retention and quality recruitment.
I support small, locally owned businesses, and I want to help them by lowering their tax burden. I also support keeping out large national competitors to local businesses, so our local businesses are not pushed out of the marketplace.
I think we have resources that are currently underutilized, particularly concerning our seniors and also public transport, that should be re-engaged.
I think Polk County is a special place and that we need to protect and preserve it. We all live here because we love it here, and we love it because it is a speciao place. We need to keep our rural character and small town feel, because that is what makes it special. It If we do not fight to keep it that way, it will be lost to development and urban sprawl.
