I have 27 years of experience with the premier law enforcement agency in the state. The training and experiences I received while serving in different locations and various leadership positions across our state make me unique. My last district command consisted of serving and leading nine counties of this state. I will provide proven servant leadership to the Sheriff's Office, while bringing with me the ability to identify and place leaders in the right positions that will create positive change. I have no political ambitions other than to lead and protect the citizens of Rockingham County.
I believe the Sheriff's office is in desperate need of culture change. When the members of the Sheriff's office feel appreciated and empowered to perform their duties, the mission of making Rockingham County the safest place in our state to live can be reached. The men and women deserve a leader that will provide opportunities for advancement through a comprehensive promotional process. When there is a positive shift in the work culture, the Sheriff's Office will be more attractive for men and women to serve in Rockingham County; therefore addressing the shortage in personnel.
The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office has operated the same for decades without changing to meet the challenging needs of our county. I will evaluate all policies and procedures that are currently in place. Through this evaluation we will make positive changes that will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Sheriff's Office. Rockingham County has limited resources. Therefore, I will build partnerships with other entities including local, state, and federal agencies. This will enhance the services of the Sheriff's Office to fulfill its mission of providing a safe place for citizens of Rockingham County to live.
More funding would allow for additional positions to be added to the current personnel allotment. I would also ask for additional funding to provide salary increases that would make the Sheriff's Office competitive with other law enforcement agencies in our county. Not only would this benefit the recruitment and retainment of deputies, it would also provide a livable income for the men and women that serve the citizens of Rockingham County. Technology and ongoing training is imperative to modern day law enforcement. I would ask for substantial funding to purchase technology and advanced training for the men and women to perform their duties efficiently and effectively.
I believe that it is vital that a proper and thorough evaluation of each person entering the detention center takes place immediately. I plan to enlist help from experts to properly evaluate any mental, physical, or addiction issues to provide adequate medical services and treatment while they are incarcerated. I do not believe that one type of rehabilitation fits all. We will seek partnerships with faith based programs, along with private and public programs that best fits the needs of the individual. To ensure that these services continue once they are released back into the community, there will be exit strategies in place that provides the individual continued treatment and assistance for successful transition back into society.
For the first time in this century, our county is given an opportunity to elect a new sheriff. For many years our Sheriff's office has operated the same. There has been an increase in violent crime across the county as well as an inability to recruit and retain men and women who want to serve in law enforcement. The citizens of Rockingham County deserve to have a Sheriff's Office that is pro-active in reducing violent crime and drug trafficking that happens far too often. I believe I am the leader to bring about that change. My years of training and leadership have prepared me for the privilege of serving the citizens of Rockingham County as their Sheriff.
