The 5-member Board sets the policy for the county, determining the strategic vision for the county, appoints a county manager, attorney and others to serve the county, adopts ordinances, including zoning, and establishes an annual budget, which includes setting the tax rate and calling bond referendums. Iredell County’s governing board is composed of 5 at-large members who have either a 4-year or 2-year term. In even-numbered years, elections are held in November for 3 seats on the board. The 2 candidates receiving the largest number of votes are given a 4-year term and the individual receiving the lesser amount receives a 2-year term. Pursuant to state law, Commissioners take their oaths of office on the 1st Monday in December following the election. Generally speaking, this is also the 1st meeting date for the new Board. In addition, the Chairman and Vice Chairman are selected by the Board members at this time.A referendum to restructure the terms of the Iredell Board of Commissioners so that members of the Board of Commissioners will be elected for overlapping four-year terms in accordance with G.S. § 153A-58(2)(c) was approved by the voters on the March 2024 ballot; this change will take effect with the 2026 general election.Information about the approved organizational restructuring can be found here: https://iredellcountync.gov/DocumentCenter/View/24028/structure-of-the-board

Position/philosophy statement
A dedication to strategic and controlled growth with a focus on infrastructure, schools and public safety
Current Occupation
Retired Military
Having served over 34 years in the military retiring as a Colonel, I know how to lead and how to handle people, material and money. I followed military service working in corporate America as a senior supply chain expert. In addition to my many years of experience, I have the required formal education with Masters degrees in Business Administration and National Resource Strategy.
Dealing with our rapid and uncontrolled growth is our biggest challenge. It effects everything to include our schools and public safety
The most effective role the County Commissioner can play is to lead from the front and make the hard decisions. They must develop a strategic plan and then execute that plan leading to the expected results.
As a supply chain expert, I will focus on bringing great businesses and industry into the county. This will ensure great jobs for our residents and help keep taxes as low as possible.
As a Rotarian and a Guardian Ad Litem, I have been very active with the quality of social services in our county. I will work hard to eliminate waste in order to provide the best services possible. Where there are gaps, I will work with the many non profits in our county to will those gaps.
