Position/philosophy statement Fiscally-responsible, independent Republican who values a strong education system that provides equal access for our children, focuses on continuous improvement, and ensures non-teacher led segments are also a priority.

I have two children who have attended UCPS from elementary through high school and attended cluster schools and choice schools. I have also had experience volunteering at the county level on the Union County BOCC Parks and Rec Advisory Committee. Combined with my education, military experience in humanitarian work in other countries, and experience running programs for international companies, I believe I can bring perspectives to the table none of the other candidates can.
To provide the best education per tax dollar to each and every Union County student in the most safe and secure environment that looks after not only their educational needs, but also their physical and mental well-being. We are also there to help appropriately fund needed resources and staff, to provide that education.
I believe the most critical need is appropriately funding teacher and staff supplements in a fiscally responsible manner to better retain that talent to provide continuous educational improvement over time. After that, would be ensuring that again school structures are aligned in a prioritized manner with age and maintenance issues.

I believe pre-K programs are vital. Learning begins prior to birth based upon science, and not just once a child enters kindergarten. While the family should the initial providers of education in the early years, pre-K programs help give each student a boost to support their lifelong learning.
UCPS is a great example of what a public education system can be. While we are not perfect, this system is at the top of the NC school systems and I would say competes with any other states’ system. We need to continue the upward trajectory, while addressing pay issues, student access issues, and our support services such as transportation, mental and physical health, school security, technology, and others. We need to keep politics out of it and promote a reasonable and achievable vision and plan. We need to ask not what we are doing, but what else can we do! I will run a clean campaign and will not smear others. I will keep to the facts and my platform.
