I'm running for reelection to continue the important work I've been doing since being sworn in to my first term in 2023. Ogden School District has made great progress in the last decade to improve outcomes for our students. I'm proud and grateful to be a part of the board and to make a positive impact in our community. I truly love our teachers and students, and they are the reason I continue to serve in this capacity.
Fully funded programs, especially for special education. Declining student enrollment. A continued erosion of trust in public education. I'm doing what I can by staying in the fight as a school board member. I've traveled to DC numerous times to advocate for our public schools. I serve as a delegate for the Utah School Boards Association to craft policy initiatives every year as we attempt to work with the state legislature.
Thirteen years of navigating special education in OSD; my current service to the board as well as on subcommittees like Student Achievement and the equity council; prior experience as a substitute teacher; more than a decade of civic engagement in the community. Founder of Awesome Autistic Ogden.
Prior to the most recent legislative changes to the book banning process, we had a very robust system in place to ensure library books were age appropriate. Now we are at the whim of a statewide policy that calls for the removal of any books that are banned in three districts. This legislation flies in the face of "local control" and is a disservice to individual school districts.
The district continues to focus efforts on improving student learning and proficiency. Year over year, the district has met and exceeded its benchmarks. For example, in the 2025-26 school year, the district saw a 37% increase in students reading at or above benchmark in kindergarten; for third grade we saw a 56% increase. In our junior highs, we saw a 7% increase in grades 7 & 8 students demonstrating proficiency on RISE ELA assessments and a 6% increase in RISE Math assessments. Additionally, OSD has an above average mobility rate and English language learners. We serve a diverse group of students and have some of the best teachers around.
Our agendas and meetings are all public. Meetings are livestreamed and recorded on YouTube. I am always available and more than happy to speak with the public on any issues with which they may have concerns. Additionally, I am very active in the community and attend events at our schools as my schedule allows so that parents can get to know me.
