What solidified my decision to run for office was learning the Oklahoma House increased funding for tuition based private schools for tax-credit vouchers, to the tune of $275 million. I could no longer sit back and watch rural schools suffer even more at the hands of our elected officials. Our public schools should be funded with our public dollars, not subsidizing the wealthy at the expense of working Oklahoma families.
One avenue to explore for creating opportunities and retaining professionals in our state is incentivizing repayment options for educational or business loans, through work contracts in a variety of fields. Easing the financial burden many young folks face may mitigate their decision to leave our state for better economic opportunities.
As a candidate for State Rep, I support legislation that restores full funding to our public schools. I will fight to rescind private school voucher tax credits, which are overwhelmingly utilized by the wealthy.
One way to help insulate Oklahoma's economy is through corporation's paying their fair share. There seems to be a correlation with corporate profits increasing during economic downturns, while worker's wages remain stagnant.
