Our government has lost its way, prioritizing the needs of corporate business entities over the needs of the people. Democracy demands action, and engaging people from all walks of life across the political spectrum is inherent to the continued success of the United States. I aim to keep that at the forefront of my service.
Our investment in our children must be the number one priority. We have seen time and time again lost opportunities because of the degradation of our public schools. We have continued to denigrate the most noble of professions and have thereby forced our public education system to the bottom of the barrel. Young professionals want something safe, research based, and appropriate for their children. We must provide that if we are to continue with any sort of growth for Oklahoma.
I am a firm believer that public dollars must remain in public institutions with strict guardrails for the accountability in their use. And honestly, now that the federal Department of Education has been gutted, it's going to require in-depth looks to see what is now lacking and how we are going to make up the difference. I would roll back the vouchers for private schools and reinvest that money into our public schools. There are infrastructure needs, staffing needs, professional development needs, and a wide-encompassing array of needs to provide the least restrictive environment for each and every child to be educated. This is our future, and it must be treated as such.
Oklahoma relies upon an often volatile commodity market. That fact is put in very sharp focus now that we are experiencing shortages across the US. We must look at how and where we are spending taxpayer dollars and ask ourselves whether or not it is the best, prioritized use of those funds. Our focus should always remain on the efficient management of taxpayer funds while preserving critical infrastructure and education to ensure no generational gaps. Traditional thought leads us to also invest in high-growth sectors, but as we've seen with the advent of AI, we must also temper that investment with caution. Government is not in the business of high-risk and should uphold the duty to preserve and protect our natural resources.
