Education is the single most important factor in my decision to seek public office. I'm tired of seeing Oklahoma ranked near the bottom in education because I know we can do better. Republicans have controlled the Oklahoma House for over 20 years, and during that time, our state's educational outcomes have fallen from roughly the middle of the nation to near the bottom. At some point, we must demand accountability and a change in priorities. We need to stop treating public education as a cost and start treating it as an investment in Oklahoma's future. Strong schools create stronger communities, better-paying jobs, and greater opportunities for our children. Every child, regardless of their ZIP code or family's income, deserves a quality education. I'm running because I believe our children and teachers deserve better, and Oklahoma's future depends on getting this right.
I believe one of the best ways to help young professionals build lasting futures in Oklahoma is to invest in CareerTech and workforce development programs that connect education with real-world career opportunities. We can strengthen partnerships among businesses, universities, and career technology centers to create curricula that meet employers' needs and give students the skills to thrive in tomorrow's workforce. By aligning education with economic opportunity, we can open clear pathways to good-paying careers, welcome new businesses and skilled professionals, and inspire Oklahoma's young people to build their futures right here at home. Together, we can make Oklahoma a place where businesses are eager to invest, professionals are excited to work, and young families feel confident putting down roots.
Providing Oklahoma children with a quality public education is a key constitutional responsibility. I would support legislation focused on three priorities. First, let’s recruit and retain high-quality educators by raising teacher pay to stay competitive with neighboring states, expanding the Teacher Empowerment Program, and offering added incentives for teachers serving underserved communities. Second, strengthen Oklahoma's school funding formula to direct resources fairly to classrooms with the greatest need, including investments in early education, literacy, special education, and student mental health. Third, boost academic and career success by strengthening literacy programs and partnerships among schools, Career Tech centers, universities, and local employers. By supporting teachers, measuring results, and investing in Oklahoma's public education, we can help every child reach their potential.
I believe the best way to protect Oklahoma's economy from national downturns is to diversify our economy, invest in our workforce, and give small businesses the support they need to thrive. Oil and gas remain vital to Oklahoma. Expanding aerospace, advanced manufacturing, technology, healthcare, and agriculture can build on that strength, create steadier jobs, and diversify the economy. We can connect businesses, universities, and Career Tech programs to prepare skilled workers, attract employers, and fill well-paying jobs. Supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs keeps more investment in Oklahoma communities. Finally, responsible budgeting and adequate state reserves can help safeguard essential services, including education, during challenging economic times. A resilient economy grows from strong communities, skilled workers, and families with the financial security to weather uncertainty.
