Carteret Borough Mayor
The Mayor serves a four-year term. She/he is responsible for the operation of Carteret's municipal government. The Mayor is elected directly by the voters, serves as the borough's chief executive officer and nominates appointees to various boards and commissions subject to approval of the Council. The Mayor sees that state laws and municipal ordinances are faithfully executed, presides at the Council meetings, and votes in the case of a tie or a few other specific cases. The mayor can veto ordinances subject to an override by a two-thirds majority vote of the Council. The Mayor makes committee and liaison assignments for Council members, and most appointments are made by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the council.
