The Bridgeton City Council in New Jersey exercises legislative, investigatory, and fiscal control over the municipality under the Faulkner Act Mayor-Council Plan A.Core Responsibilities and DutiesLegislative & Fiscal Control: Passes local ordinances and exercises financial oversight of the city.Appointments & Removals: Approves the mayor's appointments of department heads and members to the Planning and Zoning Boards, and can remove department heads by a two-thirds vote. Board Appointments: Appoints members to the Municipal Port Authority. Veto Override: Can override a mayoral veto on ordinances with a two-thirds majority vote of all members. Structure: Consists of five at-large members elected in non-partisan, four-year concurrent terms who elect a Council President from among themselves.
