Each state elects state representatives to the U.S. House of Representatives based on population. Indiana has nine US House districts based on the redistricting of 2011. There are 13 counties within District 4. These representatives are elected for two year terms. The House is given specific powers through the US Constitution, Article I, Sections 8 and 9.The House is charged with the passage of federal legislation, known as bills, which, after concurrence by the Senate, are sent to the president for consideration. The House also has exclusive powers: it initiates all revenue bills, impeaches federal officers, and elects the president if no candidate receives a majority of electoral votes.In addition, the House and Senate, is known collectively as the Congress. Federal government's role in elections is limited by the Constitution, federal law, and the decentralized electoral system. States have primary responsibility for setting rules governing federal elections. Neither federal law nor the Constitution gives a president the power to change our elections. Federal laws prohibit the deployment of the military or other armed federal officers to the polls, and make voter intimidation/harassment illegal.
Federal agents that attempt to intimidate voters should be criminally charged. Any Attorney General that refuses to enforce election laws should be impeached. Any president that sends armed federal officers to polling locations (in an attempt to intimidate voters) should be impeached!
No congressional representative (either the U.S. House of Representatives or the U.S. Senate) acting as an individual should play any role in curbing judicial or executive overreach. However, a group of congressional representatives acting as part of a committee or subcommittee have the full constitutional authority to provide oversight of the judicial and executive branches of government. And these committees/subcommittees also have the discretion to propose legislative remedies to what they consider overreach and/or begin impeachment proceedings against any judicial or executive branch member.
I will oppose any legislation intended to involve the federal government in restricting abortion or birth control. State Abortion Laws should not be allowed to unduly risk the mother's life or force the birth of a nonviable fetus. And doctors need to have clear protocols to avoid legal consequences.
As long as partisanship is the overriding factor in determining guilt or innocence with federal impeachment proceedings, our democratic intuitions and democracy are at risk! Anytime the U.S. Justice Department engages in baseless or vindictive prosecutions against the president's perceived enemies, our democracy is at risk! As long as federal government officials (legislative, executive or judicial) are exempt from laws like Insider Trading, our democracy is at risk! As long as the wealthy, corporations and non-profits have the ability to spend unlimited sums of money in order to influence elections, our democracy is at risk!
Elected officials must spend more time working for constituents less on partisan warfare. I will work to diffuse disagreements and make serving constituents the priority.
Communities have a right to choose/reject AI Data Centers. Consumers should be insulated from utility rate hikes, and Data Centers should be held accountable for any problems (e.g. pollution). I will work with state/local officials to protect constituents.
Farmers and many small manufacturers have been financially penalized by tariffs and the trade war. SNAP Benefits and school food programs are essential to both the economically disadvantaged in my district as well as farmers. I will work to change/eliminate unnecessary tariffs and restore funding for food programs.
