I support the Responsible Data Center Development Act, and am disappointed that Senator Bill Weber was one of the few senators to vote against it. I am not categorically against Data Centers, but facilities consuming enormous amounts of electricity and water require clear statewide standards. I support ensuring that data centers pay the infrastructure and energy costs they create rather than shifting them to existing ratepayers, along with strong environmental review and meaningful local input.
The concerns in Orangeburg about electricity demand, water use, noise and air quality are legitimate and deserve answers before projects proceed. New York should welcome responsible data center investment while protecting our communities.
If we want our kids to be able to afford to live in Rockland County, we need to address our severe housing shortage that has driven the average sales price up above $900,000 this past year.
First, we need "Capital-A" Affordable Housing plans that increase state support for affordable and workforce housing through subsidies to tenants, incentives to developers, and directly building more community housing.
Second, we need "lower-case-a" affordable housing plans that eliminate unnecessary red tape that drives up costs and delays construction. Ultimately, Rockland cannot solve its housing shortage without building more homes, while preserving local input over where and how that growth occurs.
I believe public officials are elected to solve problems, not serve a political party.
As the Democratic Mayor of Nyack, I have worked directly with two Republican Supervisors and our Republican County Executive to bring results for our constituents. I will bring that same approach to Albany, judging legislation on its merits, working across the aisle, and listening to the people who disagree with me to find common ground and solve problems.
I don't want to go to Albany to make angry speeches or hand out participation certificates. I want to be a Senator to solve the big problems: health care costs, rising energy bills, high taxes, irresponsible over-development, woeful public transportation, and proliferating data centers
I spent almost 25 years building the biggest real estate brokerage in the history of the Hudson Valley by promoting Rockland County as a great place to live. That's why my campaign slogan is "WE LOVE ROCKLAND!"
Rockland is great for so many reasons: our access to the Hudson, proximity to the City, our many state parks, excellent schools, and all that. But what makes Rockland special is its people. Our communities have strong traditions of volunteerism, civic involvement and neighbors helping neighbors: from volunteer firefighters and ambulance corps to nonprofits, houses of worship and community organizations.
I grew up here, raised my family here, and built my career here. Now I want to make Rockland even better as our State Senator.
