Describe your background.
I have lived in Taylor Township for 52 years and graduated from Taylor High School in 1973. My 3 brothers and both of my children also graduated from Taylor. I taught language arts, developmental reading, social studies and U.S. History at Taylor Middle School for 29 years before retiring in 2021. During my years of teaching I was an active member of the Indiana State Teacher's Association and Taylor Education Association. I served on the bargaining team representing the middle school for nearly all contract negotiations and served as president of TEA for numerous years. I was social studies team leader and on the middle school leadership team. Thru these rolls I learned not only to lead, but also to listen.
I have served in many leadership roles during my 29 years of teaching. My classroom experience and leadership roles have helped me acquire valuable skills such as : listening, communicating and working with and for people of various backgrounds and with various needs. Teaching middle school also required time management as well as problem solving. I believe all of these skills are needed to be an effective leader.
I believe elected officials have a responsibility to listen to and serve the people who elected them. Of utmost importance is transparency and accountability. I will strive to serve the families of Taylor Township with honesty and integrity.
