The New York State Assembly is the lower chamber of the New York State Legislature. Alongside the New York State Senate, it forms the legislative branch of the New York state government and works alongside the governor of New York to create laws and establish a state budget. Legislative authority and responsibilities of the New York State Assembly include passing bills on public policy matters, setting levels for state spending, raising and lowering taxes, and voting to uphold or override gubernatorial vetoes.The New York State Assembly meets in the state capitol building in Albany, New York.Assembly District 123 includes parts of Broome county.

Experience and Qualifications
Dan Norton is a lifelong Broome County resident, attorney, nonprofit leader, and father of three. His experience as a lawyer, and leader of multiple community organizations has prepared him to be an effective advocate for the 123rd Assembly District.

Housing, Childcare, Infrastructure
We must invest in, and prioritize, flood mitigation infrastructure and infrastructure investments in general. Climate change is causing more erratic and extreme weather which is, in turn, increasing the risk of flooding. In order to protect life and property we must prioritize investments in technologies that communities like Broome County can use to prevent a repeat of the 2006 and 2011 floods. We must also continue to invest in green and renewable energy projects so we can decrease our reliance on fossil fuels, reach our CLCPA energy goals, and decrease New York State’s contributions to climate change.
Social and racial justice must be more than slogans. It means making sure every New Yorker, regardless of race, zip code, income, gender identity, or background, has equal access to opportunity, housing, healthcare, education, and a fair justice system. As an Assemblymember, I will fight to raise the minimum wage and index it to inflation, to create permanently affordable housing, to adopt universal healthcare and expand mental health services, to revise the foundation aid formula so that it provides more aid to under-resourced schools, and to reform the parole system by passing reforms like the Elder Parole Act and the Fair and Timely Parole Act.
We must fight back against MAGA efforts to stack the deck in the House of Representatives by redrawing congressional districts. This will be the only way to ensure some form of political parity and that the House of Representatives is responsive to the needs of states like New York.
