Experience and Qualifications
Matt Slater serves as the New York State Assemblyman for the 94th Assembly District, representing portions of Putnam and Westchester counties. He previously served as Yorktown Town Supervisor and has years of experience in state and local government. Slater also serves as an officer in the U.S. Navy Reserves. His experience in municipal government, the State Legislature and military service provides him with a practical understanding of government operations, budgeting, infrastructure, public safety and constituent services.
Community Involvement
Matt Slater has worked with Putnam CAP, United for the Troops and the American Cancer Society. As Yorktown Town Supervisor, he established the Food Insecurity Task Force, Arts and Culture Committee and Supervisor’s Youth Council. As Assemblyman, he has secured state grants for local libraries and community organizations.

My top priorities are making New York more affordable, creating more high-wage jobs and rebuilding our infrastructure. First, we must lower energy costs, provide meaningful tax relief for seniors and middle-class families, and make it possible for people to afford to stay in New York. Second, I want to build on our work supporting small businesses by attracting and retaining high-wage jobs, connecting employers with our workforce and encouraging companies that innovate here to build here. Third, the Hudson Valley deserves its fair share of state infrastructure funding. I will continue fighting for safer roads, modernized water and sewer systems, and long-term investments in corridors like Routes 6 and 202.
I am proud to have earned the endorsement of the New York League of Conservation Voters for my record protecting our environment. I have supported major clean-water investments, acted to protect the Hudson River, and worked to combat PFAS and harmful algal blooms in our local waterways. Going forward, New York must reduce emissions while protecting affordability and reliability by expanding clean energy production, like repowering Indian Point, strengthening our electric grid and investing in new technologies. We must also help communities prepare for severe storms and flooding by modernizing stormwater and water infrastructure, protecting drinking water and investing in resiliency. Environmental progress must be practical, affordable and sustainable.
Every New Yorker deserves equal treatment, equal opportunity and the chance to succeed regardless of race, background or ZIP code. I believe we make the greatest progress by ensuring every child has access to a quality education, safe community, nutritious food and economic opportunity. I supported universal school meals so no child has to learn while hungry and have worked to expand access to child care, pre-K and strengthen our schools. I will continue supporting policies that protect civil rights, combat antisemitism and other forms of hate, improve access to healthcare and mental health services, strengthen educational opportunity and ensure our laws are enforced fairly and equally.
New York should protect every eligible citizen’s right to vote while ensuring our election laws comply with both the federal and state constitutions and the Voting Rights Act. We must also condemn political gerrymandering at every level of government, regardless of which party benefits. Voters should choose their elected officials, not have elected officials choose their voters. That is why I oppose efforts in New York to weaken or eliminate our state constitutional protections against partisan gerrymandering. In response to Louisiana v. Callais, New York should continue protecting voters from discrimination while ensuring district lines are drawn fairly, constitutionally and without being manipulated for political advantage.
