Experience and Qualifications
I have served in the Assembly since January 2025. Previously, I spent a decade serving as a diplomat at the U.S. Department of State, and worked as Vice President, Policy Research and Advocacy at the Community Service Society of New York.
Community Involvement
Prior to becoming an Assemblymember, I served as a State Committee member. I have also served as a Board Member of the Bronx River Arts Center (BRAC) and the Women’s Housing and Economic Development Corporation (WHEDco). During the COVID-19 pandemic, I organized and delivered PPE and food to Bronx families. I have also mentored dozens of Bronx middle and high school students.

My top three priorities are improving economic opportunity, consumer protection, and addressing the affordable housing crisis. In the Assembly, I have been dedicated to expanding affordable housing options, protecting tenants’ rights, and promoting homeownership in our community. I have also fought to ensure full foundation aid funding every year, increasing access to STEM, and other programs that allow children to dream bigger. I have also pushed several initiatives related to consumer protection, including in the tech sector.
As a diplomat, I worked on global climate change mitigation efforts. As an Assemblymember representing the South Bronx, I see the impacts every day, from rising childhood asthma rates to increased flooding in our district. That's why I helped stop the vehicular expansion of the Cross Bronx Expressway, which would have deepened our community's pollution burden, and why I stood strongly against this year's CLCPA rollbacks in the budget. We must act at the state level to cut carbon emissions and prepare for extreme weather.
Justice starts with closing gaps that keep Black and Brown New Yorkers locked out of opportunity, and I've taken action on this in my first term. I introduced the BEACON Act to add immigrants as a protected class under our anti-bullying laws, and co-sponsored the New York for All Act, the RADAR Act, and the MELT Act to protect immigrant New Yorkers from unchecked ICE enforcement. I passed the first-in-the-nation surveillance pricing disclosure law to protect consumers from discriminatory algorithmic pricing. I've also directed discretionary funding toward youth programs, gun violence prevention, and community development in the South Bronx. Next term, I'll keep fighting to expand the Housing Access Voucher Program, push for universal childcare, and keep defending immigrant New Yorkers from federal overreach.
I stand firmly against the Supreme Court's decision in Louisiana v. Callais, which gutted Section 2 of the federal Voting Rights Act and makes it far harder to challenge maps that dilute the voting power of Black and Latino communities. New York can't undo that ruling, but we can meet this moment by encouraging more voter participation, not less. I introduced A6877 to require every graduating New York high schooler receive a voter registration form, growing the electorate even as these challenges mount. I'll also push the state to fully enforce the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act of New York, and join colleagues in calling on Congress to restore federal voting rights protections.
