As a community leader with a background in environmental science and education, my first term in the New York State Assembly has focused on protecting our environment and building resilient communities. I helped secure $20 million for Long Island homeowners to install nitrogen-reducing septic systems that protect our drinking water, bays, and sole-source aquifer. I also passed legislation, signed by Governor Hochul, establishing a perpetual conservation easement over the 3.4-mile Setauket-Port Jefferson Station Greenway. I’ve advanced legislation to reduce single-use plastics, protect pollinators, and address invasive species. Through my Monthly Missions, I’ve engaged residents in environmental stewardship, including planting 40 American Chestnut trees and bringing 85 volunteers together to tag horseshoe crabs.

I believe every New Yorker deserves to live, learn, work, worship, and participate in their community free from discrimination, harassment, and violence. As an Assembly representative, I will continue protecting equal rights, addressing inequities, and ensuring fair access to public resources and opportunities. I supported 50-foot harassment-free buffer zones around religious institutions and legislation requiring Title VI Coordinators on college campuses. I will continue fighting antisemitism, Islamophobia, racism, and other forms of discrimination while supporting anti-bias education, universal pre-K, free school meals, strong public schools, mental-health resources, and affordable higher education. I secured more than $125,000 for My Brother’s Keeper and My Sister’s Keeper programs supporting diverse student bodies through mentorship, career development, and college access.

The Supreme Court’s decision in Louisiana v. Callais raises important questions about how states can protect voting rights while complying with current interpretations of federal law. New York already has an Independent Redistricting Commission and constitutional requirements addressing equal population, contiguous districts, communities of interest, minority voting rights, and public participation. I support reviewing these protections with the Commission, legal experts, advocates, and communities to determine if changes are needed to strengthen protections. During the 2026 session, I voted for A11553A, which is the first step to empowering voters to consider a ballot referendum for a constitutional amendment concerning the Independent Redistricting Commission. My priority is a redistricting process that is independent, transparent, consistent with federal law, and accessible to all New Yorkers.
