The New York State Senate is the upper house of the New York State Legislature. Its sixty-three members represent New York State and its more than 19 million citizens. The legislature’s primary purpose is to draft and approve changes to the laws of New York.These changes are driven by complex public policy issues. To effectively represent the will of the people, senators must gain a deep understanding of those issues and how they impact New Yorkers.New York State's 11th Senate District includes parts of Queens.

Experience and Qualifications
I have had the honor of serving as a member of the New York State Senate since 1999.
Community Involvement
As a proud resident of Whitestone, I have been to numerous civic, community board and local issue based meetings in my neighborhood and across district 11.
Education
I obtained my Bachelor's degree from Syracuse University in 1960 and completed numerous graduate courses at Hunter College and Queens College.

I am a proud co-sponsor of the Climate Community and Protection Act which aims to substantially reduce New York State's emissions across the board. Additionally I have secured funding to purchase wetlands in Douglaston in partnership with the Udalls Cove Preservation Committee. I am committed to doing everything possible to establish New York State as the leader in our fight against Climate Change.
