We are facing affordability crises on Long Island. And our young one are leaving Long Island because they cant afford a life here. My top three priorities would be:
1. Lower the cost of living by addressing property taxes, housing and other everyday expenses for working families.
2. Create more economic opportunities and incentives like childcare, first time home purchase etc for our young to stay on Long Island.
3. Fight for our fair share of state resources for public schools, infrastructure, clean water and support policies that keep our communities safe.
I support investing in a cleaner and more reliable electric grid, expanding renewable energy and reducing emissions from buildings and transportation. We must also strengthen our infrastructure against flooding and extreme weather. We need to protect our coastline and wetlands, improve our drainage and waste water infrastructure and safeguard our drinking water. These investments should be implemented in a way that protects affordability for working families while also creating more wee paying jobs.
In New York a person's race, religion, ethnicity, gender or economic background should not determine the opportunities available to them. I would support strong enforcement of our civil rights and anti-discrimination laws in employment, housing, education, and public accomodations. I would work to expand access to better education, healthcare, housing and economic opportunity in underserved communities. I would support protecting our voting rights. And i would support a fair and accountable policing and criminal justice system that protects public safety while protecting due process for everyone and treating everyone equally.
The Supreme Court's decision in Louisiana v Callais significantly limits the use of race in drawing electoral districts under federal Voting Rights Act. I would support strong enforcement of New York's John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act including its protections against voter supression, vote dilution and intimidation, language access and preclearance provisions. In light of Callais, where legally permissible, I would support strengthening protections that ensure that every eligible voter has a meaningful and equal opportunity to participate in our democracy.
