Socialism, socialism and socialism – not just the particularly virulent form that is currently metastasizing throughout the country, but that which has already permeated through the country for decades, leading to the inevitable bloom of full-blown disease we are currently facing.
Socialism is unconstitutional per the Contracts and Republican Form of Government Clauses, as well as the First, Fifth, Fourteenth, Ninth and Tenth Amendments. At the state level, I would enact new legislation or expand 42 USC 1983 to enforce those provisions, and create a Civil Rights enforcement bureau to make it easy for anyone suffering under socialist policy to bring suit. At the federal level, socialism lives mostly in the administrative agencies, which unconstitutionally infringe on the basic separation of powers mandated by the Constitution. I would replace their critical functions with better, private alternatives and eliminate them. I would also end inflation by pegging the dollar to gold or bitcoin
The federal government has NO role regarding money in US elections. Candidates should neither be subsidized nor limited. The claimed goals of such regulation are to ensure more people have the opportunity to run for office and elected officials are not overly influenced by money. But, such rules actually have the opposite effect, entrenching and protecting the people in power who enforce them strictly against outsiders and laxly against themselves. It is a basic principle of self-government that the government should not take any part in choosing the government. An effective way to actually achieve those goals would be to break the stranglehold over elections Republicans and Democrats have lavishly granted themselves by eliminating all state laws that favor large parties over small, and to allow Instant Runoff Voting, which in addition to making elections more gentlemanly and cheaper, would put all parties on an even playing field, which is why the two ruling parties are against it.
This case determined that the Voting Rights Act applies equally to all races, meaning state legislatures may not draw congressional district boundaries along racial lines, even to favor races that have experienced discrimination in the past. Of course, I agree – the government should be completely color-blind. But, concern over this question misses the bigger issue.
The bigger issue is that government has WAY too much power – to decide what is taught in the schools, to decide what religious beliefs you may uphold, to control your livelihood and what you may buy, to set banking rules, to determine what insurance you may have, to regulate your medical choices and costs, to help one business and hurt another, to determine what you may do with your own property, and on and on and on. If the government just stuck to its legitimate functions and nothing more, i.e. protecting your right to live your life however you see fit, very few people would care who is in charge or how they are selected
The national government should keep the populace informed as to its assessment of any such threats, so we may be in the best possible position to address them, if necessary.
This issue has been leveraged by socialists to intimidate people into accepting socialist policy. A basic socialist theme is that we must all sacrifice for the good of the group, for which “climate change” is a perfect proxy. Not only is the practicality of doing that absurd in a world in which a majority of countries, most of which are socialist, by the way, have no intention of doing the same, but the damage to the economy and ensuing misery would be immeasurable. That may be perfect for the socialists, who would first use such suffering to undermine the institutions that keep them from power, then increase it once in power to keep the populace weak, dependent and helpless against them in perpetuity, but the only way to really address any such threat, if real, is via the crowd-source ingenuity of the free market.
The US’ responsibility is to its citizens. The US must honor treaties duly enacted, but any obligations under treaty that would otherwise be unconstitutional are not enforceable – I do not adhere to the theory that the Treaty Clause confers authority to enact and enforce legislation that would otherwise violate the Constitution. The US may not conspire with another country to suppress the sovereignty or rights of US citizens, simply by agreeing to do the same to theirs.
The Declaration of Independence and Constitution represent a radical departure from theories of government that were universal prior to their adoption, and perhaps still are. Interaction with other regimes must be limited only to what is necessary to remain on cordial and friendly terms, to maintain trade, and otherwise to serve the interests of the people. NATO does serve such purpose for the time being, as does the UN so long as the US retains veto power there. However, the US should exert all influence to end the ICC
