Biographical Information

1. If elected, what would be your top three legislative priorities during the next term?

2. Sufficient affordable housing continues to be out of the reach of many middle-class wage earners such as teachers, hospital staff and fire department employees. What policies and practices must be put in place to meet this need?

3. Given the reality that Riverhead is one of the last places on Long Island with significant properties for investment and development, do you believe that the Riverhead IDA (RIDA) should continue to induce developers and investors as it has in the past? Or do you believe that the RIDA should be pulled back, restricted and re-focused? Explain your answer in detail.

4. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents continue to operate in and around the Town of Riverhead. What do you believe to be, if any, the role and function of our local police force to create a safe environment for all own residents and ensure that their rights are not violated by ICE agents?

5. The Town of Riverhead is poised to make some significant decisions regarding land preservation for the first time in many years. Tell us which parcels you believe need to be preserved and describe your actions to lead the drive toward their acquisition for preservation.

Bio Ken and his wife, Debra, moved to Wading River 30 years ago just after getting married and raised their children in Riverhead. Ken owns the Alexander-Rothwell Funeral Home in Wading River, allowing him to serve the residents in his hometown. He has been a volunteer firefighter for over 23 years. Now with a larger funeral home staff, Ken is able to transition to public service as a Town Councilman. He has now been given a great opportunity to give back to the town in which he has so grown to love. As a successful local businessman, Ken intends to utilize his knowledge to provide businesses in our town the ability to flourish, thereby keeping residential property taxes stable while maintaining our agricultural preservation and beauty.
Experience Riverhead Town Councilman for the past 5 1/2 years. Successful business owner of Rothwell Funeral Homes the largest funeral provider on the East End of Long Island.

1- To continue to preserve our agricultural heritage by preserving more land. 2- To utilize smart development to enhance our tax base and create high tech innovative jobs at our EPCAL site. 3- To support our Police Department & Fire Departments and continue to build a new Ambulance facility for our First Responders.
I have created an RFP for a new housing development site at our Railroad Plaza. This project will give priority approval to our first responders, veterans and residents with limited income to become potential first-time homebuyers.
The Riverhead IDA is a proven entity to entice new development and have created a greater long-term stronger tax base for our town. It has established requirements for employment through development projects. Yes, there are upfront tax breaks for a developer, but a long-term tax base strategy helps lesson the tax burden on town residents. However, overall tax incentives for development should have a dollar amount limit and time frame limit.
I am proud of our Police. As an accredited agency we follow all laws established in New York State. Our Police Department will provide protection and support when requested by any law enforcement agency. Local Police have no jurisdiction over Federal Agents.
I am working to preserve the 4H site on Sound Avenue in Baiting Hollow and a parcel of land located at 1458 Middle Road in Calverton - both for open space. Appraisals have been ordered on both sites as we begin to negotiate potential purchases.
