Brown County School BoardThe school system is governed by a five member nonpartisan board of trustees who are elected to serve four year staggered terms. Two of the members are elected at large; three must reside in the district from which they run. The school board governs the Brown County School Corporation by establishing and updating operational policies, reviewing and approving budgets and hiring the superintendent.
As a senior executive and officer of a Fortune 500 company, I have prepared multi-million-dollar budgets, created and executed complex project plans for IT/software development and deployment and managed large teams locally and remotely. As a forty-year resident of Brown County, I have seen Brown County schools face and overcome many challenges. It is my desire to work hard to help students continue to receive the education and support they deserve to achieve personal success.
Indiana Code, laws passed by the state legislature, and the Brown County Schools (BCS) Policies & Procedures address absenteeism and remediation efforts. I would follow those established instructions.
A formal learning recovery plan should be developed collaboratively with the student, parent/guardian and school personnel. The plan should be reviewed periodically with progress recognized and adjustments made as necessary.
The BCS Corporation has a formal set of Policies & Procedures which include a section on Bullying. I would refer to and follow those policies and procedures.
I would support staff led projects where students connect with local organizations to understand real world issues by listening and communicating effectively, developing potential solutions and assessing the results.
I believe the Brown County Schools currently offer numerous avenues for students to achieve their life goals. I support continued development of academic programs for students preparing for post-secondary education, expansion of trades and health care programs (including adult education), promotion of entrepreneurial skills through EAGLE Manufacturing and growing the newly developed agricultural programs. I also believe the arts, music and theatre programs could be enhanced to support career opportunities for the creative souls. The funding could be relatively proportional based on student interest and enrollment, subject to state law.
