I am retired and can devote my time to the town full time. I have a business and education background with leadership skills I have been volunteering for the town for years and believe I have been listening to the community and what they need. I have a lot of energy and enthusiasm and connections with the Democratic county and State and Federal Government to get things done in Hamlin.
Open and transparent government. Better communication with citizens. They need to know how we spend their tax dollars. They get a tax bill or a receipt but no explanation. Our roads and safety are a priority. The town park needs cameras or security guards. There are areas in Town that are not only eyesores they are hazardous. We need more for teens to do at night There are areas that have become notorious for drug exchanges. And finally we need to protect and preserve our rural and agricultural environment.
It’s difficult to pick one! We are a town with 3 different school districts, so we have 3 different agendas already built in to our mindset. The people on our Eastside are in Hilton and some are on the Lake. The feel like they don’t even belong in Hamlin, it takes them 20 minutes to get to Town. They shop in Hilton go to school in Hilton and have a Hilton mailing address but they vote in Hamlin! The same is true with the Westside Kendall school district. And the south and north Brockport school district. There’s no continuity in Hamlin. Each school district goes to their school for events. They don’t have a community center in Hamlin. If we had a new Town Hall (which we have needed for quite some time) with an awesome community center we might be able to pull at least 2 of the school districts together. The Eastside would still be the furthest away. We would need a huge grant to pay for it. We already have the design and the plans drawn. That would be the only ONE thing to benef
Right now I’m on the Planning Board and we send clients to zoning when we can’t approve what they want to do. Sometimes there are zoning issues that need to change for the good of the town but there are others that amount to spot zoning which I am against. When you allow a small business to operate amount residential units I believe you’re asking for trouble. I don’t like it when the planning board allows it and I don’t like it when zoning allows it. When zoning changes the zoning code it’s permanent. The new zoning codes and laws for Solar was a good idea however. Solar Fields can only be placed on industrial zoned property in Hamlin. That is a good idea to protect our prime Farm soil.
