I bring years of leadership, administration, ministry, community service, and experience working with families and young people. I have founded and led organizations, managed budgets and projects, built teams, and made difficult decisions that affect people’s lives. As a parent, taxpayer, and community leader, I understand the importance of listening, asking hard questions, and staying accountable. I would bring common sense, transparency, fiscal responsibility, persistence, and independent judgment. I will study the issues, listen to parents, teachers, students, and administrators, support educators, hold leadership accountable, and keep student safety and achievement at the center of every decision.
EVSC should protect the classroom first. That means prioritizing teachers, student safety, academic programs, and essential student services before administrative growth or lower-priority spending. I would support a careful review of programs, contracts, staffing, and expenditures to identify savings without weakening education. We should also further pursue grants, partnerships, and other funding sources. As a taxpayer and parent, I believe every dollar should be measured by one question: does this improve outcomes or safety for students? I'm no stranger to a tight budget, and with conservative spending in areas of least priority, we can still shine where it matters most—in the classroom.
To attract and keep good teachers, we have to make the EVSC a place where they feel respected, heard, supported, and safe. Competitive pay matters, but so does strong leadership, reasonable workloads, classroom discipline, and knowing administrators will stand behind them when problems arise. I believe teachers should be able to focus more on teaching and less on unnecessary bureaucracy. We should listen to why good teachers leave, address those concerns directly, and make retaining excellent educators a budget priority.
To attract and keep good teachers, the EVSC must become a place where they feel respected, heard, supported, safe, and empowered to teach. Competitive pay matters, but so does strong leadership, consistent discipline, manageable workloads, and administrators who stand behind teachers when problems arise. I would work to reduce unnecessary bureaucracy, listen directly to teachers about why they stay or leave, and make retention a real budget priority. Good teachers should spend more time teaching and less time fighting problems that should have already been solved for them.
In light of the recent discovery of a firearm and ammunition brought by a student into North High School, I stand by my commitment to prevention, early detection, controlled access, rapid response, and strong coordination among schools, families, and law enforcement. Weapons detection systems will be costly, but doing nothing could cost far more. EVSC should cut unnecessary spending and redirect those dollars toward real safety measures that protect students and staff. School safety must be a top priority, because when students and teachers are safe, learning can begin.

I received a Bachelors degree, two Masters degrees in Special education and adult and community education, with a Secondary administrative license, plus 60 hours. I taught Special Education 4 years, Assistant Principal for 10 years, Principal for 17 years, Mental Health administrator 5 years, higher education administrator 2 yrs, Central Office administrator 2 years, and EVSC Board member for 9 years. I served as EVSC Board President in 2017 and 2021. My leadership skills include Past President and 10 year board member at Liberty FCU. I was Region 9 Director and board member of the State of Indiana Retired Teachers Association, and local Retired Teachers President for 1 year. Finally I served 6 years on the EVSC Foundation Board.
The EVSC 2027 Budget could potentially include a decrease in revenue of 15.5 million due to property tax caps (Circuit Breakers). The breaks assisted tax payers, but decrease revenue collections for EVSC next year and beyond. In possibly 10 yrs the caps could grow to 25 million, which would not be sustainable, but we can still levy property taxes for items like debt service, capital projects and transportation. EVSC should maintain discipline with ongoing obligations, and evaluate effectiveness on spending. Finally, Senate Bill I shifted fiscal responsibilities back to the school districts reducing revenues, and is now part of the funding formula based on enrollment.
With our assistant superintendent assigned to recruiting teachers and even high school students to the education profession, I feel we are doing a good job, but as always, improvements can be made. Lobbying for higher salaries and benefits, along with marketing strategies for recruitment, and social media presence, can also assist us. Results we are focused on are higher test scores in SAT/ACT, in IRead and Ilearn scores, and for a happy and safe environment, and academically well educated students.
Any major decision made by the school corporation is usually brought before the board as a preliminary discussion and then later as an action item. During the time period, surveys may be conducted, discussion and questions may be asked and answered. Collaboration, transparency, and respect for other stakeholders is a must and extremely important with the focus on our children and staff first and foremost in our minds The board will decide based on information from all stakeholders. We all want what is best for our children and that is always our main focus in deliberations.
The School Board currently is waiting results from our audit of all of our schools in regards to weapons detection technology. EVSC has paid $215,750 for an Ohio based consultant for safety and security services. The Board voted to issue obligation bonds up to, but not to exceed the agreed $15 million for safety and security only. The cost could be less depending on final the safety report. On kids safety and security are our priority, and whatever we can do to keep kids and teachers safe, we should move quickly for implementation of the final results of the study.

I believe my experience , my service, and my ability to connect with people have prepared me for this position. As a current EVSC School Board Trustee, I understand that this work is more than attending meetings. It is about showing up, listening, asking questions, and making decisions that put our students first. As a US Navy Veteran, & UE graduate, I understand leadership, teamwork, accountability, and service. I have spent years serving our community, working with families, mentoring young people and serving on boards. I am willing to have the hard conversations, but I also know how to listen and work with others. I do not have to be the loudest voice, but I will always make sure our students of EVSC have a voice at the table.
I believe we have to be good stewards of every dollar that comes into our district, especially when we know there may be less money available. That means we have to look at what we are doing, what is working and where we may need to do things differently. But for me, our students have to remain at the center of those conversations. There may be some hard decisions ahead, but we have to be thoughtful, transparent and responsible. At the end of the day, our job is to make sure our kids continue to receive the quality education they deserve.
Attracting and keeping great teachers starts with listening. We can recruit teachers all day long, but if they do not feel valued, supported, and respected, we will continue to lose good people. Competitive pay and benefits matter, but so does culture. Teachers need strong leadership, adequate resources, time to plan and opportunities to grow. Ask teachers now: What do you need to stay? When we support our teachers, we are ultimately supporting our kids.
I believe that everyone deserves a seat at the table. When we are developing policies that impact out students, we need to hear from the experts, but we also need to listen to our parents. Experts can provide research, data, and best practices, while parents know their children in want no report or data can show. It is about listening, asking the right questions, and finding common ground. At the end of the day, every decision we make should come back to one question-is this in the best interest of our students and helping them succeed?
For me, safety is more than making sure the doors are locked. We have to make sure our kids feel safe when they come to school every day. That means paying attention also to bullying, fighting, threats, social media, and the mental health of our students. We also have to listen. If a student says something does not feel right, listen. If a parent brings a concern, listen. If a teacher or staff member sees something, take it seriously. Parents trust us with their children every day, and we have a responsibility to do everything we can to make sure our kids are safe, supported, and able to learn.
