I have been a lifelong servant of my community and country. I currently serve on the Sherriff's Merit Board, The Soldiers and Sailors Coliseum board, and a three-term President of Mount Vernon Kiwanis, and have served as Precinct Committeeman for over 16 years. I formerly served on the Community Foundation Board, Lynn Township Advisory Board.
I served 24 years in the U.S. Navy and reserves and served 30 months active duty on two recalls after 9/11. During my Navy time I was a Logistics and Financial specialist responsible for multi-million-dollar budgets for two commands.
My formal education includes:
Master of Business Adminstration from Oakland City University.
Insurance and Securities educations at the American College.
As a supporter of law enforcement but one that believes in accountability, I believe flock cameras can provide an important tool for helping find lost children as well as serious criminals and recovery of stolen vehicles. However, the use of flock cameras must be monitored to protect the rights of the innocent. Like most government powers, they must be used within the laws and those abusing the use should be held accountable.
I feel the lack of appropriate housing is a major problem for our county. We need more affordable housing for our workers so more people can choose to live and work here. Recent statistics show that 50% of the workers in our county choose to live elsewhere. We need more housing options here and I believe more will choose to live here. We have excellent school systems, low property taxes relative to other areas and low crime rates relative to other areas. We also have a beautiful place to raise families. Our volunteer fire departments are struggling to recruit which impacts their response times and our Sherriff department needs more support to provide competitive pay for our deputies. Most agencies pay more for starting pay than we do.
Posey County's property tax revenue increased by 19.2% in 2024 -2025 tax year according to an AARP study. This was driven by a spike in tax assessments values. We had the highest increase in the state. Our challenge is to better focus our revenue to the most important priorities. My focus is police, fire and EMT services. Our problem is not more taxes. It's how we manage it. Our county is carrying a cash balance of over $60 million dollars and the townships are holding $7 million dollars as of 1/1/26. We don't need higher taxes; we need a better focus.
There are too many unanswered questions at this time. We don't know the location, the type of facility, the community impacts or anything else yet. We need to calm down and wait for an actual application to be filed. We need to have an ordinance that keeps the doors open for prospective industries, but any application should be evaluated carefully to ensure it's in the best interest of the county residents. An elected official should never sign an NDA.
