1. The 2027 budget season is coming up fast. How do you propose to minimize budget increases going forward without tapping the Town's General Fund?
2. Last year's property assessments reflected a 100% increase in market value since 2021, which resulted in significant property tax increases for many residents. In addition the 2026 assessments also had significant increases for many residents. How do you plan to manage tax increases in 2027?
3. At present, there is no affordable housing on the Island. The Town is proposing to build 10 units. How do you propose to offer them as "affordable" and to existing Shelter Island residents? The CHB liaison presentation to the Town Board indicated that they were short funds to proceed with the project. How will this shortfall be filled without taxpayer funding?
4. The proposed upgrades to the septic systems for the Town municipal buildings have stalled. Some feel the upgrades should wait until a Master Plan is approved. Others feel the upgrades should proceed ASAP on some of the buildings before the awarded grant money is lost. What do you feel is the best way forward and why?
5. The Town purchased 2 School Street in the Spring, which was not in the 2026 Town budget. What is the Town proposing for 2 School Street? How will the property and the construction/renovations be paid for without using taxpayer funds?
