What is the most important issue facing your Single Member District (SMD) and how do you intend to address it?
How will you engage with residents to be an effective Commissioner, especially reaching those who are unfamiliar with the role and value of ANCs?
QualificationsI've served as ANC 7B Commissioner since 2021 and Chair since 2025, leading advocacy efforts from transit safety to zoning that have delivered real results for residents. I bring 15 years of government relations experience, a bipartisan skill set built from work on Capitol Hill, and a track record of turning community concerns into unanimous ANC resolutions and follow-through with agencies and Council. I've lived in DC since 2011 and in Ward 7 long enough to know this district's specific opportunities and problems firsthand.
The most pressing issue in 7B03 is blighted and unmaintained properties: vacant lots and neglected buildings that drag down neighboring property values, invite illegal dumping, and signal disinvestment. The old Alexander Pope Funeral Home site is a clear example: vacant and overgrown for years instead of becoming housing. I'd address this by pushing the Department of Buildings to enforce existing vacant property fines more aggressively, working with Council to close loopholes that let owners sit on blighted lots indefinitely, and using my seat on ANC 7B to formally flag problem properties to the relevant agencies with resident documentation behind each case.
I maintain an open-door policy, residents can reach me directly rather than navigating bureaucracy to get a question answered or an issue flagged. I regularly attend community meetings, including the Randle Highlands Citizens Civic Association, where I've been involved since 2015, and I make a point of updating residents on what's actually happening in the community, not just when there's a vote. For residents unfamiliar with ANCs, that means explaining plainly what the role does and doesn't do, advisory power that carries great weight with agencies and Council when residents show up behind it. I try to make civic participation feel accessible rather than procedural, so people see a direct line between showing up and getting real results in their neighborhood.
