Biographical Information
What is the most important issue facing your Single Member District (SMD) and how do you intend to address it?
How will you engage with residents to be an effective Commissioner, especially reaching those who are unfamiliar with the role and value of ANCs?
QualificationsMy name is Manasi Raveendran and I am running for ANC Commissioner in ANC 6D-04. I am a proud Washington D.C. resident, by way of South India and the Chicagoland area, with many other cities in between. A lawyer and advocate, I have worked on various issues throughout my legal career, which all coalesce around good government and holding our government officials accountable. I am also passionate about giving back to my community. In my free time, I enjoy exploring new cuisines (including as part of a cookbook club), writing short stories, and going on adventures near and far!
There are two important issues facing SMD 6D-04: 1) new housing construction and 2) the need to foster sustainable retail spaces.
On new housing construction, I plan to address by 1) engaging with my constituents via listening sessions to understand perspectives on the builds, 2) engaging with the relevant DC government entities and property owners share communities concerns and ideas, and 3) push for any changes that will foster equity and community building.
On sustainable retail, I plan to address by engaging 1) the business owners to understand their concerns and ideas, 2) an ad hoc committee to help bring ideas to the ANC (e.g., potential Great Streets designation, business partnerships with local cultural venues), and 3) build connections so that these ideas can be implemented.
One of my first internships was with my local state representative in the Chicago suburbs where I grew up. What I learned from her was that it is important to care about your community and your constituents and you need to show up for them in all ways, big and small. That is how I plan to represent ANC 6D-04: by leading with curiosity, by asking questions, and by being a listener, a helper, and an advocate in whatever way I can.
The three things I’d prioritize for the next two years are 1) accountability, 2) neighborliness, and 3) communication. Please feel free to take a look at my website for more information about me, my plans, upcoming listening sessions, and more! Thank you all for your consideration as I hope to earn your vote for ANC 6D-04 on Election Day, November 3, 2026!
