Duties: Serves as a member of the Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC). Commissioners represent the views of residents of their Single Member District (SMD). After deliberation and votes, the ANC Commission advises the Mayor, Council and executive agencies in local matters such as parking, zoning, traffic, liquor licenses, permits, etc.Deberes: Se desempeña como miembro de la “Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC)”. Biographical Information
What is the most important issue facing your Single Member District (SMD) and how do you intend to address it?
How will you engage with residents to be an effective Commissioner, especially reaching those who are unfamiliar with the role and value of ANCs?
QualificationsOver 15 years of work in government relations, DC resident for 10+ years, earned my Master of Public Policy (2016), my current work focuses on relations between local communities and the DC government.
The most important issue facing SMD 6B07 is traffic and pedestrian safety. While out talking with neighbors, more than once I heard from folks asking for a stop sign at a certain intersection, or to add a speed bump to a well traveled street. I strongly support requesting DDOT to implement certain safety measures at dangerous intersections and on passthrough streets to reduce accidents and improve pedestrian safety.
I'd like to create a SMD 6B07 dangerous intersections/roads map by collecting reports of near-misses with vehicles, blocked crosswalks, blocked bike lanes, dangerous parking, speeding, poor visibility, etc. within the last year. I'd map the reports, compare the information to DDOT crash data, to identify the top five most dangerous intersections and find remedies with DDOT.
As matters arise, I will use the ANC SMD email list to communicate with SMD residents. However, I know that not everyone receives those emails. If an issue is particularly controversial, I would create flyers to hang around the neighborhood along with a QR code for residents to complete a survey or to speak with me during designated office hours at a location within the SMD over a series of dates and times. In my conversations with neighbors about the ANC race, I explain that an ANC is a nonpartisan role in the DC government. In my view, the ANC's primary purpose is to be a bridge between residents and the city government, to be a voice of the local community with the DC Council and other government offices on matters that directly affect us.
