Duties: Serves as a member of the Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC). Commissioners represent the views of residents of their Single Member District (SMD). After deliberation and votes, the ANC Commission advises the Mayor, Council and executive agencies in local matters such as parking, zoning, traffic, liquor licenses, permits, etc.Deberes: Se desempeña como miembro de la “Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC)”. Los comisionados representan las opiniones de los residentes de su distrito miembro único “Single Member District(SMD)”. Biographical Information
What is the most important issue facing your Single Member District (SMD) and how do you intend to address it?
How will you engage with residents to be an effective Commissioner, especially reaching those who are unfamiliar with the role and value of ANCs?
QualificationsExperienced ANC commissioner who secured free admission for DC residents to a new museum in Southwest DC & free access to an interim library for Capitol Hill during the years our library was closed for renovations. Former law professor & longtime DC resident.
Public safety, maintenance of public spaces, housing, & maintaining a diverse commercial sector. I reinstated a long-dormant ANC public-safety committee that meets regularly with local police, will continue to lobby for my neighborhood to keep public spaces well-maintained & to increase housing density while preserving green spaces, & am organizing a public roundtable to discuss ways to preserve commercial diversity on Barracks Row.
I have long collected residents' e-mail addresses & periodically update my constituents on ANC matters. I promptly respond to email messages & freely provide my telephone number, something rare among ANC commissioners.
