Biographical Information
What is the most important issue facing your Single Member District (SMD) and how do you intend to address it?
How will you engage with residents to be an effective Commissioner, especially reaching those who are unfamiliar with the role and value of ANCs?
QualificationsDelivering Wins for Fort Lincoln is my mission as ANC Commissioner, engaged neighbor, and former President of the Fort Lincoln Civic Association. From advocating for our new $50 million Fort Lincoln Recreation Center and Park, changes to bus routes to better serve our seniors, to collaborating with organizations to secure grant funding for community amenities, I work with the community to make Fort Lincoln the crown jewel of Washington, DC. I'm a native daughter of Washington, DC, an author, public speaker and leadership trainer, and earned my Ph.D. in Urban Leadership and Entrepreneurship at the University of the District of Columbia.
There is no single most important issue---transportation, public safety, community amenities, including a grocery store, all matter to many residents. But the single thread that guides me is active engagement with all of the Fort Lincoln clusters to hear concerns, facilitate conversations that lead to action, and persistent engagement with city agencies to drive results. The success with the Fort Lincoln Recreation Center and Park was the result of active, persistent, clear, and focused advocacy. I will continue to address the major issues of Fort Lincoln with that focused, strategic approach.
My approach is to communicate both broadly and deeply. Broadly, to continue to share on social media forums, but also to share update flyers door to door. This creates awareness. Deeply, to engage in cluster meetings such as my recent meeting at the Gettysburg senior building. This was precisely the opportunity to explain my role as the ANC and engage residents on what matters to them and how we can achieve outcomes together.
