What is the most important issue facing your Single Member District (SMD) and how do you intend to address it?

How will you engage with residents to be an effective Commissioner, especially reaching those who are unfamiliar with the role and value of ANCs?

Lack of communication is fundamentally at the top of the list to all residents throughout the SMD. To improve coordination and ensure residents receive timely information, I would propose that the Commission adopt a standard communication and follow-up process, including shared tracking, defined response times, and recurring public status updates. Bring visibility, structure, and accountability to issues—not just raise concerns. The strongest tool is a formal ANC recommendation, because District agencies must acknowledge eligible ANC advice and explain whether they accept or reject it under the “great weight” standard. Issues may be Traffic and Safety, Historic preservation, institutional property and upkeep, rodent control, Future Land Use.
For 10 years, 2012-2022, I had the honor of serving as an ANC 5B02 rep. Over that decade, I had been an active and impactful leader—bringing neighbors together, elevating community concerns, and helping residents navigate the decisions that shape their daily lives. At this juncture my experience has taught me that effective leadership is not about holding a title; it is about being present, listening carefully, building trust, and follow through. I know how to turn community voices into meaningful action, and I remain committed to making local government more understandable, approachable, and responsive to all. I’ll continue to show up, listen closely, and make it easier for every neighbor to understand what the ANC does and speak up on the decisions shaping our community.

I believe street safety and accessibility for ALL modes of transit is the most important issue facing my SMD (that an ANC could help address). Our SMD lacks so many street infrastructure upgrades that would improve the safety of all our residents: 4-way stops, curp bumps, raised crosswalks, and road diet measures on Monroe, South Dakota Ave, Taylor Street NE, and Michigan Ave NE. Drivers drive too fast and too recklessly which endangers pedestrians, cyclists, personal property, public property, and other drivers/their vehicles. As other cities have shown, infrastructure upgrades is the most equitable way to change driver behavior and make sidewalks, streets, and all passageways safe and accessible - no matter how you get around.
As a member of the community and local public schools, I already know a good deal of my neighbors. Our home also hosts community events and a community garden - which has enabled me to already be connected to so many people within the ANC. I am a natural communicator (with 10+ years of communications, engagement, change management, and marketing experience) that believes in MULTIPLE channels to reach varying audiences. We need a mix of social media, digital channels, in-person events (at varying times) and also community outreach to educate, inform, and enable our residents to make ANC5B02 stronger & better, together!
