Biographical Information
What is the most important issue facing your Single Member District (SMD) and how do you intend to address it?
How will you engage with residents to be an effective Commissioner, especially reaching those who are unfamiliar with the role and value of ANCs?
QualificationsI bring public-sector policy, education, business, and community leadership experience to my candidacy for ANC 4D02. I have spent approximately four years in public-sector consulting, supporting government agencies on housing, education, and community outreach. I also own a public-sector consulting business based right here in Ward 4, giving me firsthand experience as a small business owner in our community. Previously, I spent five years as a DC public school teacher and served as a U.S. Senate Policy Fellow and education and workforce advisor. I also serve on the board of LAMB Public Charter School and have lived in DC for more than a decade, including four years in Ward 4.
The most important issue facing 4D02 is managing the growth and development of our neighborhood in a way that benefits existing residents while creating opportunities for new families, businesses, and neighbors. Brightwood Park is changing, and I want to make sure that growth comes with the infrastructure, transportation options, pedestrian safety, and community amenities needed to support it. As an ANC Commissioner, I would work with DDOT, DC agencies, developers, local businesses, and residents to make sure community concerns are heard early and that development contributes to a safer, more connected, and more vibrant 4D02.
I would engage residents by being accessible, visible, and present in the community. I walk my SMD five times a week and have been knocking on doors and talking with neighbors throughout the campaign. I would continue those conversations as Commissioner. I also want to make the role of the ANC easier to understand by clearly communicating what the ANC can and cannot do, and how residents can get involved. I would use multiple ways to engage neighbors, including in-person meetings, email, online updates, and written feedback, so residents who may not traditionally participate in ANC meetings still have a voice. My goal would be for residents to see their ANC Commissioner as a resource and advocate they can reach out to, and not just someone they see at a monthly meeting.
