What is the most important issue facing your Single Member District (SMD) and how do you intend to address it?
How will you engage with residents to be an effective Commissioner, especially reaching those who are unfamiliar with the role and value of ANCs?
QualificationsI've spent my career working to help Americans vote, helping millions of Americans register to vote and sign up to vote by mail. I'm running for ANC to make sure folks in my neighborhood have their voices heard in government.
My top priority as commissioner will be making our roads and community safer for families, local businesses, and all our neighbors. Safety to me means everything from fighting the scourge of gun violence to making it safer to drive, walk, or bike on our streets. I'll build a relationship with the 4th District MPD, convene residents around specific areas of concern, and look for grant opportunities to address safety needs. I'll advocate for common sense ways to make our streets safer—including getting a traffic light at NH and Quincy, a 4-way stop sign at Quincy and Warder, and improving the bike lane along Rock Creek Church RD. And I'll continue to protest the federal occupation of DC and the ongoing deportation of long standing members of our community.
ANC meetings are poorly attended and often only people with specific business in front of the ANC attend. Therefore, it is vitally important for commissioners to engage with the community in many ways, online (like email newsletters and surveys) to offline (knocking on doors, showing up at events, putting up flyers). I'll hold regular "ANC office hours" in the triangle parks in 4C07 so folks can find me and talk about whatever issues they have that DC government can do a better job of addressing. And I'll continue the work of the incumbent ANC 4C07 commissioner, Eric Heller, who has endorsed my campaign, of holding regular ANC 4C cleanup events.
