Duties: Serves as a member of the Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC). Commissioners represent the views of residents of their Single Member District (SMD). After deliberation and votes, the ANC Commission advises the Mayor, Council and executive agencies in local matters such as parking, zoning, traffic, liquor licenses, permits, etc.Deberes: Se desempeña como miembro de la “Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC)”. Biographical Information
What is the most important issue facing your Single Member District (SMD) and how do you intend to address it?
How will you engage with residents to be an effective Commissioner, especially reaching those who are unfamiliar with the role and value of ANCs?
I think our SMD 4C02 is in a relatively strong position overall. You hear a lot about trash and rats, which is a problem that affects the rest of the city as well. I'd like to be proactive about contacting 311 to address both these issues, and circulate information about how to do so for folks that might not be aware of the process.
Beyond that: one issue that is a personal top priority is street safety. I'd like to emphasize well-implemented bike lanes that make space for bikes and help to ensure traffic follows the proper speed.
I'd like to maintain a monthly newsletter to keep residents updated on what the ANC is working on and why it matters. I'd also like to try out periodic "office hours" where I share that I'll be at a specific coffee or business for a set period of time to give folks the chance to meet and share thoughts or concerns face-to-face.
Lastly, I think it will be key to piggyback off existing infrastructure as much as possible. For example, I know that several streets in our ANC already have a groupchat or listserv where they keep each other updated on important issues. Identifying key people in each of those networks to help disseminate info would be an effective way to reach residents who won't otherwise seek out an ANC meeting or website.
