Biographical Information
What is the most important issue facing your Single Member District (SMD) and how do you intend to address it?
How will you engage with residents to be an effective Commissioner, especially reaching those who are unfamiliar with the role and value of ANCs?
QualificationsFormer PTO President at Whittier Elementary and Ida B Wells Middle Schools, 15 years in the neighborhood, 16 years in public service including 9 with DC Government, former DC business owner
SMD 4B07 experiences a range of issues that all come back to housing. Some houses have been purchased by investors to use for contracted services with DC Government (a density of group homes for youth and adults) and some are rentals with bad-actor landlords taking advantage of vouchers without maintaining the properties. In the market-rate side, homes are still relatively affordable but remain out of reach as starter homes for young families. In general, we lack smaller options like ADUs and apartments/multifamily.
I plan to address the first issues via oversight of contracts and ensuring that homes used for those purposes are properly maintained and licensed. I will also explore options to limit expansion of this use type to keep more homes available for neighbors.
I am deeply connected with many neighbors and recognize many from my frequent walks with my dogs around the neighborhood. I am also connected with the communities of the three DCPS schools that border my SMD. I will organize trash cleanups and continue my work to circulate a neighborhood map for people participating in Halloween. I will also work with the long-time organizers to bring back Lamond Community Day.
