Biographical Information

What is the most important issue facing your Single Member District (SMD) and how do you intend to address it?

How will you engage with residents to be an effective Commissioner, especially reaching those who are unfamiliar with the role and value of ANCs?

Qualifications I've been an ANC commissioner for six years and am only now catching my stride. I've spent a half century in the public realm as a newspaper reporter, think-tank fellow and a political appointee in the federal government. I love the community and still think people of goodwill can find common ground.
The most important issue is how to bridge the deep divide between residents who want no new development and those who want substantial new development. I try to bridge it by supporting proposals that seek to make moderate changes without overwhelming the community.
I'll continue to do what I've done for the past six years -- try to make the case there is a reasonable middle ground when it comes to development and do a lot of door knocking.
